So Labour Party supports the teacher's union in opposing schools reopening on 1 June....

Whilst the the leader of the Labour Party has his own children currently attending state school....

Hypocrisy of the political establishment...

That’s a very weird way to flex that story.

LarkDescending · 22/05/2020 22:27

Eh? The Telegraph is running a story saying he is “calling for a consensus to get pupils back in the classroom”.

BilboBercow · 22/05/2020 22:28

Alternatively, he's a key worker, sending his kids to school along with other key workers kids, but doesn't feel the time is right to open the schools up fully

Quickerthanavicar · 22/05/2020 22:29

He's a key worker. The return of three year groups is a little different.

GolfForBrains · 22/05/2020 22:29

Eh? Would it be better in your eyes if his children went to private school, OP? You are making no sense. Why does supporting the unions and using state schools make him a hypocrite?

PepperMooMoo · 22/05/2020 22:30

Bore off.

OhhhPeee · 22/05/2020 22:31

What an utter bastard, wanting to do his job and keep kids safe. String him up!

MsJaneAusten · 22/05/2020 22:31

Wow.

Key worker sends his children to school so he can work. Total non-issue.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/05/2020 22:32

And on other threads people criticising the Tories whose kids go to private schools which aren't back TIL Sept.

Can't fucking win.

Kirschcherry · 22/05/2020 22:33

He’s a key worker and his wife is a key worker in the NHS, his children are entitled to be in school. Also, he has been saying all along that opening schools must be a priority.

SoHereWeAre01 · 22/05/2020 22:33

It's not about being a key worker or not but about the safety of children.

Surely if Keir feels his kids are safe at school, he should support the gradual return of children of non key workers?

OP posts:
Floatyboat · 22/05/2020 22:34

A very sympathetic write up by the telegraph. The Tories are in trouble.

ExCwmbranDweller · 22/05/2020 22:34

Doesn't his wife also work in the NHS? Double key worker family.

Floatyboat · 22/05/2020 22:34

Surely if Keir feels his kids are safe at school, he should support the gradual return of children of non key workers?

I think he does.

RuffleCrow · 22/05/2020 22:36

Nice try, op.

The utter scumbags that masquerade as tory mps and you honestly think MN is going to turn on the lovely Sir Keir for daring to send his kids to school. Grin

You're living in a fantasy world.

EVERYBODY supports the gradual return of children to school. No teacher wants to stay off forever. We just want the proof that it’s safe, and that it’s the right move for the health of students and teachers. We want to go back!

megletthesecond · 22/05/2020 22:37

A handful of key workers children is one thing.
Full school years is a totally different kettle of fish. The teachers need to be listened to so it can be done safely.

Itisasecret · 22/05/2020 22:37

The key worker provision is a whole lot different to the current shit show they made up, whilst ignoring SAGE. The Telegraph are keen on him, Boris and the Tories appear to be on borrowed time. Especially with the DM putting Cummings on the front page.

TrickyWords · 22/05/2020 22:38

There is a world of difference. Basic science difference.

Mumoftwo0357 · 22/05/2020 22:40

I know drs and nurses who have kids in school at the mo who are against the schools opening to larger numbers too. And they aren’t hypocrites they are well within their rights because they will be the ones having to look after patients if we suffer a second spike. Key workers children are in school so key workers can tackle the coronavirus - that includes the leader of the opposition.

Valenciaoranges · 22/05/2020 22:43

What an utterly bizarre interpretation of this. Surely as a key worker, his kids are entitled to attend school??

ExCwmbranDweller · 22/05/2020 22:45

I am running different scenarios in my head now and the OP's/newpapers take on it.

Keeps children home whilst wife works 'Kier shows contempt to the office of leader of the opposition'.

He works and his wife stay home 'Starmer expects wife to ignore NHS in its time of need'.

Gets a nanny in doesn't even bear thinking about Grin

SoHereWeAre01 · 22/05/2020 22:45

Strange that posters automatically assume if you are critical of Keir or Labour you are a Tory... talking about identity politics. For the record I voted LD at the elections...

1 June is not opening up of schools for everyone but a small number of classes.
Yet Labour do not support the 1 June date.

I feel this has become more partisan than ideological.
Kids from poor backgrounds and BAME are worse off yet Labour supports the teacher unions in opposing the GRADUAL return of pupils on 1 June.
