Is your infant school opening for year 1 children?

My daughter's school have said only nursery and year R can go back as they are an infant school and year 1 and 6 can only go back if it's a full primary school. Is that the standard rule everywhere?

Our infant school are sending reception and year 1 back! The attched junior school is not sending any years back and lending some of their teachers (and classrooms!!) to the infant school so reception and year 1 can be accommodated!

My DC school is an infant/juniors & they're only having key worker/vulnerable children in for all year groups as they don't have the staff/space to teach safely.

Useruseruserusee · 22/05/2020 19:19

No it’s not, the government guidance does say that opening will be more challenging for infant schools as a higher proportion of their pupils are eligible to go back. If they haven’t got capacity, they are instructed to focus on nursery (if they have one) and reception.

cadburyegg · 22/05/2020 19:20

Our primary school intend on reopening to YR and Y1 on 8 June, no immediate plans for Y6 to return

It’s my understanding that the guidelines suggest the youngest go back first

cadburyegg · 22/05/2020 19:21

Sorry just saw your school is infants only please ignore me 🤦🏼‍♀️

irwellmummy · 22/05/2020 19:21

The DFE guidelines state the the priority for each school must be nursery then reception, Year 1 and then Year 6. Therefore if a school hasn’t space/teachers for all year groups on the list they should then work through those classes in the given order.

ArtisanPopcorn · 22/05/2020 19:22

Interesting. Our school worded it as if year ones were only going back at full primary schools.

Wilberforce1 · 22/05/2020 19:35

Our primary are taking Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 so both of mine! The school have been amazing and they have obviously put in a lot of work, lots of letters being emailed so we know exactly what's happening. Both of mine are desperate to get back, must be my inadequate homeschooling 😂

Uhoh2020 · 22/05/2020 19:37

My dc school is only having reception and yr 6. No nursery or yr1.

onemouseplace · 22/05/2020 19:41

Ours is only have Year 1s back.

ThatBitch · 22/05/2020 19:45

Ours is only 36 of year R (out of around 85 children). No yr 1. It is an infant school. The juniors are taking all of YR6.

GameSetMatch · 22/05/2020 19:49

My son is year 1 and his school is opening full time for years 1,6, R and nursery.

ArtisanPopcorn · 22/05/2020 19:52

Sorry can I please say again I'm talking about INFANT schools not full R-6 primary schools.

LittleRen · 22/05/2020 20:13

Ours is not opening for any year group, they are reviewing it week by week and reception will be reviewed w/c 15th, followed by year one and year six. Our LEA does not support schools opening though.

Italiandreams · 22/05/2020 21:11

The thing is with infant schools the chances are unless they get extra staff from somewhere or lots of spare rooms they are unlikely to be able to accommodate all suggested year groups. Potentially if take up is low but if most parents want a place it’s nearly the whole school when you include key worker’s children in year 2. The guidance would not be able to be followed.

Scottishgirl85 · 22/05/2020 22:02

Our infant school covers pre-school to Y2. So 75% of the school are eligible to go back and they are indeed doing this.

user1000000000000000001 · 22/05/2020 22:13

Our primary isn't having any back other than key worker/vulnerable children

Gillian1980 · 23/05/2020 14:12

Our infant school is taking R and Y1 but only offering one day a week per child so that smaller classes can be facilitated.

ScrumptiousBears · 23/05/2020 14:16

Our school are offering nursery, reception, Y1 and Y6 to go back. Key worker and vulnerable kids are 5 days a week. Other kids whose parents have opted to go back are a 4 day week with Friday off.
