Couldn't help noticing in Sainsbo today how many people - men & women - have decent haircuts.
They can't all be living with hairdressers/barbers.
Is there an underground organisation?
Knock 3 times and ask for ????

My dad has apparently had his hair cut by my mum ......an 84 year old woman whose sight isnt what it was. Currently persuading my niece to send me a photo Grin

Popcat120 · 19/05/2020 21:27

I did mine yesterday and it didn't come out too bad.
Just watched some YouTube tutorials, couldn't wait another 6 weeks!

SquirtleSquad · 19/05/2020 21:27

My dad did his own but couldn't reach the back so just left it Grin

missmouse101 · 19/05/2020 21:33

I have just done The Mumsnet Haircut and it's come out well! Going to get daughter to do my roots tomorrow. I need to trim the fringe though. Husband and son shorn all over with clippers.

HeIenaDove · 19/05/2020 21:38

@PinkSparklyPussyCat Im not touching mine either apart from pinning my fringe out of the way and using Loreal Magic Retouch root concealer spray to cover the grey I have thick hair so not all the grey is showing through yet.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/05/2020 21:40

I've done DH with clippers a couple of times - the second time in the garden to avoid sweeping up. By mutual agreement he was responsible for setting the height of the clippers - we know someone who'd done similar to Rufus's DH, gone straight up the front with them on the very shortest setting and then had to do the rest to match.

I got mine trimmed in February, a bit more off than I might have otherwise because the writing was on the wall. My hair is straight and naturally fair so it can go quite a long time without much attention.

The nice haircuts could be wigs Grin

My hairdresser is a real artist and I can usually go several months without a trim ( usually shoulder length). If I blow dry it properly then you would think I’ve just had it cut. He’s a very clever chap.
Also a blond so no roots showing.
But I am desperate for a pedicure and summer hoof do over.
Big lockdown plus though is I have been able to grow and paint my nails. Work dictates they have to be very short.

funmummy48 · 19/05/2020 22:30

My daughter cut my hair and her sister’s. She did a great job.

VicesReturning · 19/05/2020 22:39

I cut DSs hair and made complete mess of it ! :(

CountFosco · 19/05/2020 22:58

Haven't been to the supermarket for a while but I'm noticing more and more roots on other women in zoom calls. Very glad I don't dye my hair.On the other hand I have had a pixie so am getting increasingly shaggy. When the hairdresser opens I'll be front of the queue to get a restyled.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/05/2020 22:59

I’ve trimmed my fringe - blunt Louise Brooks type bob - and it’s come out well. My hairdresser is fantastic, so although the rest of it is longer than I would like, it looks fine. I usually go every five weeks and am missing my second cut of lockdown next week.

PickAChew · 19/05/2020 23:07

I got my wavy lob trimmed about a week before lockdown and wouldn't have been planning to get it cut again until mid June, anyhow. I've trimmed my fringe, myself, a curl at a time, but often do if it annoys me. It was tickling my nose, prompting me to keep scratching my face, all the time, so had to be culled!

tumpymummy · 19/05/2020 23:12

I cut son's and husband's with clippers after watching YouTube videos. Husband was happy enough with his that I will probably continue to do it once barbers open here and save him £16 every 6 weeks.

KnobChops · 19/05/2020 23:15

There are some black market ones in operation. The barbers down the road has his curtain shut but a mobile number on the door and I’ve seen him sneak people in.

KnobChops · 19/05/2020 23:17

Surely wee nippy has a wig on.

Natsel84 · 19/05/2020 23:20

I'm a hairdresser. I cut my husbands hair , there are " underground barbers " charging £50 + for a haircut where I live , which for most barbers is 4 to 5 time more than normal . Plenty of people walking round with fresh haircuts .

2bazookas · 19/05/2020 23:23

I did both ours yesterday and though isezitmeself they look really good.. I did his with electric clippers (number 4) and tidied round his ears with the kitchen scissors. On my own I used the kitchen scissors to gave myself a Judi Dench pixy; he neatened up the back for me.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 19/05/2020 23:30

I saw someone today with absolutely beautiful hair - perfect fresh colour, long, thick ends - think she had extensions in. I’m so jealous of everyone who has stunning hair right now, my colour and cut look awful. I don’t even look like myself

DramaAlpaca · 19/05/2020 23:31

I bought some clippers just as lockdown started. DH was my first victim, and he was quite pleased with the result. I've done it for him a couple of times since. Then I did DS1 and DS2, who were happy enough too. The only one who's not having any of it is DS3, but he likes his hair longish anyway. The clippers have paid for themselves at this stage.

Samtsirch · 19/05/2020 23:32

Dawn French definitely wears a wig whilst on tv theses days, so do many others...
I just trim my fringe and bundle the rest up in a messy « up-do» as they call it.

LittleRen · 19/05/2020 23:35

DH has trimmed mine three times, it looks good. I also used esalon and went from highlighted blonde to brown and I love it and now I can keep on top of the roots until things get back to normal! I do have very thick hair though and it’s quite forgiving!

Pipandmum · 19/05/2020 23:38

It's only been a couple months. My hair looks fine (it's curly that helps). Roots showing but I home dye those anyway and haven't bothered as I'm sure the checkout people at Tesco couldn't care less (and still looks ok on Houseparty)!

ODFOx · 19/05/2020 23:39

DD(15) cut mine this weekend and she did a fair job. Not perfect but much better than it was and cegg egg thinly means I won't need to breaking down the salon door when they open. She won't let me do hers though.. ..
