Can anyone link where it says about it being extended on the G.Ment website? My mum is also extremely vulnerable and works for the NHS. I've told her to expect to not go back but she's desperate for official info.

I can’t see an alternative to shielding until there’s a treatment, a vaccine or herd immunity.

Of course, it should be voluntary, not a legal requirement

DianaT1969 · 18/05/2020 17:28

Can your job be done from home?

ToothFairyNemesis · 18/05/2020 17:30

It’s on the 50 page document!
Page 22
Protecting the most clinically vulnerable people
Some people have received a letter from the NHS, their clinician or their GP telling them that as a result of having certain medical conditions, they are considered to be clinically extremely

vulnerable.
Throughout this period, the Government will need to continue an extensive
20
Those in the clinically extremely vulnerable cohort will continue to be advised to shield themselves for some time yet, and the Government recognises the difficulties this brings for those affected. Over the coming weeks, the Government will continue to introduce more support and assistance for these individuals so that they have the help they need as they stay shielded. And the Government will bring in further measures to support those providing the shield - for example, continuing to prioritise care workers for testing and protective equipment.

I haven't had official notification but its probably safe to assume the shielding notice will be extended. No government would say the most vulnerable are safe at this point, they'll officially extend before the 30th June they originally said.

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 18/05/2020 17:41

Hi op. I'm in the same position as you. I don't think I could cope with it being extended. But I am also scared of going back to work because I don't want to catch the virus.

StrawberryJam200 · 18/05/2020 17:42

Heard a really interesting interview on Radio4 earlier about their plans in Scotland, they're acknowledging that is must be test, track, isolate and support - you can't ask people to shut themselves away at home without giving the adequate support in every way. The English document does say further kinds of report are going to be put in place too.

Emilyismyfavourite · 18/05/2020 17:42

My son was told to start shielding last week, taking him up to 7th August. I would assume it will be extended for those people who have been shielding before then.

79Fleur · 18/05/2020 18:02

We have been shielding as a family from the beginning as my partner is in the most vulnerable category ...I honestly don’t know what we will do come September when our child is due to start school.
There is no one size fits all solution for everyone as we all have different circumstances and different reasons why we need to shield.
They may never produce a vaccine and we can’t stay inside forever.
I’m hoping they come up with a solution soon.
