Has anyone her lost someone as a result of Covid? *were they confirmed to have had it*

I realise this will be early days some having just lost someone close to them and I am very sorry for your loss.

I wonder if you would be comfortable in sharing if your loved one or someone you know has passed away and was confirmed to have Covid?

I work in a care environment and we have lost 40 residents over and above the "normal" number we would around this time of the year. Half of those were confirmed to have had Covid and the other half were suspected (passed prior to testing)

Not someone I'm close to but my grandfather's BIL did. Confirmed Covid-19 in hospital.

Do do the losses need to be in the uk? My dad’s sister husband died of it, but in Sweden. She got it first and passed it on to her husband. She is improving and is almost clear from it. She is in her 90s and has kidney failure. They tested her when she showed symptoms and got a positive test and her husband had a negative test at first which turned positive after he developed symptoms and died very soon afterwards. This was back in early April/ late March. From that, I assume sometimes, you would need to have enough virus load to get a positive. Or have the tests improved? What is the chance of false negative?

@Number3or4 I think maybe then there was some issues surrounding the earlier tests providing false negatives. It might also have been the person completing the test didn't do it right.

Yes a grandparent. They were already very unwell though and weren't expected to live long regardless.

Two, extended family. One elderly in a nursing home. One in 40s, fit and healthy.

Elderley Uncle. Advanced dementia in a Nursing home. Died 'comfortably' in hospital at least.

A friend. 93. Confirmed.

I lost my Auntie , my Great Uncle, and my friends Dad. All in the U.K., all three tested positive for covid . All over the age of 40.
They think I had it in January (I’m in the U.K. too), I was so unwell and genuinely thought I was going to die . My husband is a nurse and he thought I was a gonner too. I’m pregnant which made it all the more terrifying

3 close friends have lost a parent each so far.

Yes extended family. In their late 20s, no health conditions, healthy weight.

I'm so sorry to hear you've experienced so much loss in such a short time and to then become unwell yourself! How are you now ? Have you completely recovered?

Thank you OP that’s really kind of you, it’s been awful and funerals and everything just aren’t the same.
Honestly I’ve never felt as unwell as I did during that time. It started off as a bit of a cold for about a week and then what we thought was tonsillitis . I left work on the Thursday 10 mins early as I felt very feverish and they said I was looking bad. I got blue lighted that night to the hospital as I went into a seizure following a spike in temp of 42. My husband said he’s never felt so terrified. It took me about 6 weeks to get back to my normal self , I’m still short of breath now but I’m putting it down to pregnancy . Because it was in January they weren’t testing here for it but have said since looking at my bloods (in my midwife apt’s) that they’re almost 100% sure it was corona and not just a normal respiratory infection with pneumonia. Honestly hand on heart thought I was going to die . Absolute miracle that baby is ok!!

Just that feeling of not being able to breathe properly , only able to take short quick breaths and I felt so so cold but couldn’t even have a blanket and they were putting fans in my face as I was so hot but I didn’t feel it to me. It felt like I had sand in my lungs and I said that to them and they said that my tonsils had turned septic and they treated me for that and respiratory infection but nothing worked !

My mum died in a care home. She had a massive downturn and stopped eating and drinking, but as she had a bit of a temperature one day she was swabbed. No coughing or anything like that. The day she died her swab came back positive.
The care home were amazing, and gave her such a gentle, dignified death.

My friend lost her husband. In his 50’s. No underlying medical conditions.

Neighbours In the town I used to live they were twin sisters and the eyes and ears of the street always looking out for others they did a lot to help when my kids were small was so shocked to hear of them passing within days of each other

My mum. We have no idea how she got it as she last went out of the house mid February and was admitted to hospital on March 29. She died in the early hours of the 31st of march. She tested positive for covid, but she had other conditions (she was in a lot of pain which was why she was taken to hospital). She took off her oxygen mask, after being told that she was covid + and unlikely to recover, and asked not for it to be put back on as she wanted her end to be as "quick as possible". The nurse when to get her end of life box that had been taken with mum to hospital, then paged the Dr who was on another ward. By the time the nurse returned to mum it was over. It took 10 minutes from mum taking of her mask for death claim her. I know this as the hospital rang to say mum had made her decision, then rang again 20 minutes later to say she had gone.
Even though he was the only person in the house with mum for the whole 2 weeks prior to her death caring for her and holding her hand he has had no symptoms whatsoever, the last time he was ill was with a cold back in November.

Yes two, one confirmed (in a care home recently) one not confirmed (early on in a care home).

Another relative had it badly and I think we’re a very close call. They are nearly three months later still very poorly.

G-Mil aged 94 was diagnosed in hospital with “a mild case” and was discharged back to her nursing home where she promptly died.

Not covid but domestic abuse death because of lockdown so indirectly yes
