If you live in a tourist area, when do you think the tourists should return?

I completely understand that people who live in the Lakes, Devon etc don't want tourists right now (and that's fine. I'm not planning on visiting any time soon). I was just wondering when you personally think it will be acceptable for tourists to return for day trips/longer stays? When deaths fall below x amount? When cafes etc are allowed to reopen?

We're not a terribly touristy area but our beach carparks are closed and people have been asked not to come. I think it's ridiculously terratorial, there's loads of space to spread out. I went inland today and had lovely time in another city's green spaces and feel so much better for it. I don't understand why our town is being so precious.

I live near the coast as well (not a major resort) and our car parks are all open. I noticed that it was busier yesterday but not enough to make me feel uncomfortable. Most people were keeping their distance. A few big groups but it was easy enough to avoid them

I don't think it's up to me. I do live in a National Park, but I don't live in one of the areas where there is a shortage of hospitals. National Parks belong to everyone - I am lucky to live where I do, but I don't have more right to enjoy it than somebody living a tower block in a city.

Absolutely! There was a lot of frothing on local Facebook groups about how busy our beach area was..I went down to investigate and it was fine. There was space for hundreds more before distancing could start to be difficult. We have a mile long stretch of beach!

I was hoping to get out and get some fresh air tomorrow but it’s so confusing on where to go. Where is deemed as too touristy and where is acceptable, it’s difficult to know.

I have to say I don't really understand the lack of hospitals argument when it comes to day trips.

When people no longer have to keep 2m apart as it’s impossible on our sea front already.

Watching with interest, I'm booked to go on holiday to the lake District in July (booked nearly a year ago). I think I probably won't be going but I'm still not 100% sure .

Personally, given how we're now looking at a longterm issue living with covid, I don't think anyone should be visiting outside of their local area, as all this is likely to do is further increase the infection rates in the less exposed, probably more idyllic spots.
. Not ideal for the local economy, but better than a high local death rate and contagion rate.

Very small beachy place here. Council asking people not to come. Social distance isn't happening this week although it has been good. Local chippy has reopened and drawing in hoards... Figures gone up this week when we have been really low..

near me the seaside is open. carparks and toilets. A wise move as people will come anyway. Theres a huge beach, plenty of room for all. The council are sensible to either shutting bogs and having wee and shit in the nice flowerbeds or provide facilities. Lots of covid reminders/ signage alert/ safe etc. chippy open. on the prom the stalls are readying for the weekend!

I think this year is a write off for tourism, acknowledged with the October furlough. Even if pubs and restaurants are open in July/August it'll be with strict social distancing and smaller places can't accommodate the hordes.

One way or another some normality will be needed next summer for tourist towns because there won't be a furlough.

local radio has adverts from the council etc to say its open etc and please use your phone/ parking app if possible or avoid touching parking machines by gloves, pen or something. They`ve gone for being nice to visitors , no frothing (even on the local fb page!).

unlike a seaside further round which is all shut "are u local"???? and plain nasty!! the fb page is for visitors AND locals and its shooting itself in the foot because visitors are seeing the nastiness of residents and theyll be clearing up human poo etc if the bogs are closed! theyll be moaning next year when less people go lol. while the first seaside will be appreciated and their economy will be better.

I live 30 mins outside the Lake District national park and we are usually there most weekends but I am not going back yet.

I've been down to the sea today. Plenty of people, plenty of space. However no toilets open so limited to how long people can stay!

Not this year

Not sure when it'll be right for people to return, but we live on the edge of what;s termed, an area of outstanding natural beauty. I said a few days ago, I can't see us leaving the county this year - to be honest I can't see us going more than 10/12 miles, but I am a pessimist and could well be wrong. Lucky that we live close to a lovely area, part of which is in walking distance, but would be so lovely to visit somewhere else and appreciate it.

The car parks near our beaches have been closed for a while, but re-opened this week. I'm a bit gutted - the tourists can't spend any money here, but they're dropping their litter and leaving their dog shit as usual.

Funny how people only seem to be thinking about coastal areas or national parks - what about cities that have far more tourists usually?

What about autumn/winter? Surely a lot of local businesses will close altogether if there are no tourists at all? Out of interest, do any of you have a business that is reliant on the tourist trade?

Tourist area in Wales 9 covid deaths today in Wales, we need the tourists to come back our economy is geared towards them to a great extent.

Thankfully it’s not their decision to make

Which is fine , but when is later exactly ?
Tourism is a huge part of the income / trade / economy and we need people to come here ( and it’s nicer , more beautiful and cheaper to stay here than Cornwall )
Where I live ( rural ) there’s plenty of space to walk , and cross the road or go into a driveway or ditch to allow distance
Life goes on , let’s just get on with it and be considerate to others (
