Testing is a disaster- 7 days and no result and told could be up to 10

As a key worker married to a medic a speedy result was vital in getting me and him back to work safely for all.
Booked a drive through test at a large site in the midlands and it’s now 7 days with no result.
Have phoned them three times and they just send an email to the investigating team and tell me to keep waiting but the woman on phone yesterday said she had taken calls from people with no result past ten days.
It’s just so busy she said

Isn’t that the point? They are ramping up who can be tested and the facilities to take tests but if the labs can’t cope it’s utterly meaningless.

Anyone else waited this long?

I got a result in 48 hours. But I had a generally positive experience- easy to book, no queue, clear instructions and helpful staff. I started a thread because I was so impressed but it seems there are huge regional variations. Lots of people had problems unfortunately.

Didn't they have to send a load of tests to the states because of a lab issue? Is yours currently in a big queue in Chicago or somewhere? It's frustrating because mine wasn't in the least bit important (picked up on the app for research), but yours is!

There appears to be no way of finding out where my test is - certainly the helpline can’t or won’t tell me what lab it has gone to.

@Alwaystwomagpies I've had the same experience. Tested May 3rd. I phoned three helpline on day 5, just got told it could take longer. Phoned a different number and an email was sent to the 'special team'. Phoned again on day 7, an email was sent to the 'special team' again. Phoned again yesterday (day 9) and they decided to send me out a new test kit.

I received the test kit this morning, courier is booked for tomorrow. DH can return to work on Friday anyway, because DD3 got symptoms on the evening of 30th April.

DH and DD3 got home kits on the day that I had to go to the test centre and they got their results 2 days later.

@Lougle
What a crock of shit!
Really feel this should be mentioned more nationally as it is making a mockery of the whole testing system

I got mine in less than 24 hours: mine was done in hospital prior to a planned admission for a csection in the north of England. There seems to be massive variety regionally and due to the reasons for the test.

JacobReesMogadishu · 13/05/2020 13:25

I know a doctor who never got his results. 2 weeks of being fobbed off and then the admitted they didn’t know where the swabs were.

TechGinny · 13/05/2020 18:41

I had a test at a test site in the Midlands 10 days ago and haven't heard anything yet. The booking process was easy, the site was well run and everything went swimmingly, and I was told I didn't have to do anything following the test because I'd registered online. But, nada.

Alwaystwomagpies · 14/05/2020 20:20

@TechGinny ten days?! That’s rubbish have you raised it as an issue with anyone?

Lougle · 14/05/2020 20:41

@TechGinny I'm on day 11 now. Tested on the 3rd. At this rate I'll get the result of the test that was collected this morning before I get the result of that one.

Iamblossom · 14/05/2020 20:50

My son was tested in late February and it took 2 weeks to get a result , during which time the school refused for him to go in. So he has had those two weeks off school and missed a load of exams , plus all the school now missed since they closed .

LandlockedBlues · 14/05/2020 21:29

I'm also on day 11 of waiting.

TechGinny · 14/05/2020 21:57

@Alwaystwomagpies No, I couldn't find out where I could chase it up, although I didn't try massively hard tbh.

I meant to update the thread last night actually, I finally got my email and text to say I'd tested negative. A completely wasted exercise, one way or another!

Alwaystwomagpies · 14/05/2020 22:45

What a shambles the whole thing is
And they are basing the new test and trace strategy on this?
