From the app:-

The COVID Symptom Study app has been updated to include specific questions about periods, hormone medications and menopause with the aim to better understand how hormones such as oestrogen might influence COVID-19 outcomes. The data will shed more light on the underlying reasons why there are sex-based differences in the response to coronavirus infection and the role of hormones in the disease as demonstrated in COVID Symptom Study data on hospitalisation.‍

They are looking into the effect of oestrogen as part of trying to find out why men seem to be more at risk

Elizabeth110100 · 09/05/2020 17:01

I was about to ask the same question. Today was the first time they've asked that.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/05/2020 17:02

Is there a question about Vitamin D, whether you have ever been tested or supplement ? ( Should be, ethnicity and being fat as factors, bit obvious innit ).

thethoughtfox · 09/05/2020 17:55

Could it also be that our temperature rises at that time?

  1. Oestrogen
  2. Because your body temperature can be raised shortly before a period

Oh look, a disease which affects men more adversely than women and there's research into why.

Shame that doesn't happen the other way around
