Shielded people and a second wave

Just thinking about a possible second wave. If people are shielded during this first wave, will they be shielded in the second too? I'd assume so. What happens if there's a third wave? Will we keep getting 12 week shielding advice. I feel like I'll be staying shielded for ages.

What about the sixth wave?

ClientQ · 07/05/2020 01:18

@Keepdistance plus all the rare conditions. I think mine is 1 in 1 million in adults, and the chances of someone having had the virus with it are slim!

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 07/05/2020 13:11

Yep. If they can find one person with exactly my health shit/medication/age/weight/fitness/whatever and tell me if they lived or died, I'd be impressed Grin never mind enough to give me a statistically significant idea of risk!

The latest guidelines say that shielded people will be banned from working unless it's from home

The link goes on to say that if not possible the workplace must ensure social distancing for the person in the workplace.

No it doesn't, please read it properly:

Shielded “extremely vulnerable” people will be banned from any work that isn’t carried out at home. Businesses must help nonshielded “vulnerable” people work from home where possible.or take extra care enforcing social distancing around them in the workplace.

That is insane. If the government bans people from working, how will they pay their bills and put food on the table?!?

Who knows? The Tories will probably say you can claim SSP, which obviously isn't enough for most to live off.

I fucking hate the 'Karen' thing. It's classist and sexist.

And ageist.

howdidwegetheremary · 07/05/2020 15:06

At a wild guess once the ‘lockdown’ (or pretend lockdown) has been ‘lifted’ and the high risk group reach the end of their 12 weeks I would imagine it would be left to the individual to manage their own risk from there. Not particularly helpful as most employers won’t be as supportive as needed.

Bloody REALLY hoping there is a vaccine by the end of the yearSmile

Bugger, I misread that. Wonderful. I'll just sell my flat and move in with my parents then.
