I hope it's next week! Surely they cant be thinking about opening schools before family and friends??

For reference - we stood more than 2m apart in w fresh air. No more risk than youd encounter queuing in Asda car park

Well yes exactly. I stood in the queue at the Co-op with my dad for 10 mins the other day (coincidentally). We chatted (2m apart). Would have been pretty weird if we’d stood ignoring each other. It would have been safer in terms of virus transmission if I was at the end of his drive in the fresh air!

“Its no different to being out for a walk and keeping 2m.distance”

I thought we werent supposed to do this either? ie meet with someone from a different household and walk, even at a distance.

To be honest thecrhetoric " are we allowed" to see loved ones is a bit scary. I went to see my dad the other day....5 meters apart ...i stood on the road. He was at the door. Mind you a 10 min chat was long enough!!

The Irish plan starting from 18 May seems sensible and proportionate, reported here www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/02/ireland-extends-covid-19-lockdown-to-18-may-before-phased-exit

Drivingdownthe101 · 06/05/2020 09:48

The Irish plan is fairly sensible but wouldn’t help us because a) I have 3 young children so there are automatically 4 of us on our walks and b) my youngest is too young to understand staying 2m away from granny! But we can wait a while longer.

@covidpanics I know he did - I was just saying what it says on the gov website, although I think that may be in place to help those that live alone.

FatRascalsAndJam · 06/05/2020 10:30

I hope they introduce something similar to Canadian restrictions, whereby those living alone are able to merge with one other household to enable caring duties to take place/reduce isolation. My adult DC lives alone hundreds of miles away and I can’t even begin to understand how awful it must be for them to have not spoken to anyone but staff in Tesco since mid March Sad they’re feeling pretty down, but for those with pre-existing mental health issues the loneliness must be overwhelming, and a far bigger threat to their wellbeing than the virus.

The difficulty is coming up with policies that are generic enough to be simply understood by all, yet allow for the fact that everyone has their own particular challenges from coronavirus. So extending to people living on their own would exclude (for example) single parents who are desperately in need of a few hours relief from a friend or relative, yet saying everyone can merge with one other household would see people taking advantage and having huge family get togethers. I don’t envy those trying to tred this line!

Also, boris said that over 6 weeks ago. Things have changed since then. Were pssf the pesk.

Madein1995 · 06/05/2020 11:02

Past the peak!!

IrenetheQuaint · 06/05/2020 11:06

Madein1995 - meeting your friend is totally within the law (as you are only 2 people in total), but against the government's advice.

I've done the same as you and think it's fine if you're both low risk so this isn't a criticism, I just wanted to clarify as there has been some confusion on this thread.

Madein1995 · 06/05/2020 12:05

Ah I get you, sorry if I seem snappy!
It's just in the past few weeks I've been criticised for going to waitrose on way home from work for wine and spaghetti, criticised for wanting lockdown to end yesterday, for going for sometimes 2 walks a day.
Up until now me and my friend wouldnt of thought of doing it. But these restrictions are getting to us. Yesterday it was standing on the pavement near her car. Saturday it is gonna be a local park!
