Temporary jobs for 16 year olds.

Ds 16 has seen lots of jobs advertised in shops, warehouses and food outlets. He wants a job as is getting bored and wants the money before 6th form. I’m not keen as have no idea re social distancing levels, he doesn’t need the money to live so travel not essential and not keen on germs in the house, he could spend the time getting ready for year 12 courses.Thoughts.

I’m interested in this too for my 16 year old. Sadly I don’t think there will be many jobs going because the sorts of places they would work are currently closed. When they do reopen people will go back to their jobs to start earning again.
Even fruit picking jobs are hard to get because farmers want experienced people.
Sorry, probably not much help! It’s a tough year for 16 year olds all round.
Hope your son does find something though!

Yes difficult, I believe the fruit picking jobs are 18 minimum, would like something for my 16 year old.

There are loads near us. Shop work, Dominos etc but is it ok CVwise?

Why wouldn't it be ok CV wise?

M1ndgulActivity · 03/05/2020 20:08

It’s not essential travel as he doesn’t really need to work. I’m worried about social distancing at work, he’s only 16 so not best pleased to work out if measures are ok( he’ll want the money so won’t care), my mum is in her 70s and lives close by, don’t want any increased risk when restrictions are lifted. My place of work is very strict re cv safety and Dh is working from home.

I think for a 16 year old any job will look good on their CV. It’s more about learning employability skills like punctuality, responsibility, teamwork, good communication skills rather than the actual job (but if it’s in their preferred line of work then that’s a bonus).

Going to work is essential travel regardless of "needing" to work so that's not an issue. No one is going to ask for his bank statements to establish if he really needs to get a job. Shops and foodplaces have implemented social distancing as a requirement to be open. Do understand your concerns regarding infection. That would be something I think you should chat over with him and make a decision as a family I think.
