Got tested on Thursday but not heard anything back. Anyone else?

We got tested at the Birmingham NEC on Thursday. The whole testing site seemed very disorganised and I don’t have much faith that we’re going to get our results anytime soon. I really need them back as I care for my Nan full time and currently having to stay away while we wait for these results.

Has anyone got any advice/experiences?

I got tested on thursday in the south west and had my results back by text yesterday morning at 6am. They did say up to 5 days though so you have until Tuesday.

I did a home test kit. Did it on a Monday and got results by late Wednesday via email. Negative result. Not sure I pushed the swab far enough up my nose but I'm fairly confident I had flu rather than covid19 as I had no cough whatsoever. My symptoms matched flu way more than covid19.

Home test kits state within 48 hours

This is where we're going to have problems. There's an article on sky news I think it was that said home kits have to be used correctly and the swab needs to go across the tonsils.

I'm thinking there's going to be increased transmission from false negative tests due to people not being medically trained.

I had a test at one of the drive through places on Thursday, was convinced I hadn’t done it properly but I got a positive result through by text and email yesterday.

Anyonewannawoo · 03/05/2020 12:14

@thighmageddon

We went to the drive thru centre but we just got lobbed a test through our back window. The test didn’t even have instructions and had to get the attention (with 50 other cars) for a solider to lob them through the back window (god knows why they weren’t thrown with the original test) - there’s probably a lot of people out there who thought they knew what to do and didn’t bother waiting ten minutes for the one solider to run around giving them out.

@Thighmageddon I think so too which is why I've continued to act as though I have covid19. Flu is also a very nasty virus that I wouldn't want to pass on knowingly, which is another reason I've stayed at home.
I think if I get symptoms again (I'm on a rota at a school so highly likely) I'd request a drive through test.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 03/05/2020 12:19

@Anyonewannawoo oh I didn't see your post. I assumed the drive through tests were performed by medics!

Thighmageddon · 03/05/2020 12:20

Jesus Anyone this isn't filling my Hope o meter!

I'm not sure I'd be able to get the swab far back enough on myself, I've never been able to put my fingers down my throat to make myself sick so I'd need someone who knows what they're actually doing and I have no choice.

Anyonewannawoo · 03/05/2020 12:54

@thigh

My partner was struggling putting it up his nose but I was quite stern that it was less painful than Nan getting Covid.

I just wish there was a system in place like amazon that when the barcodes are scanned it updates so we at least know they’re in the test centre/ being tested / predicted time as I’m literally standing by my phone waiting for the result and my Nan keeps calling me.

@Italianmeringuebuttercream

At the Birmingham NEC on Thursday there was about 10 soldiers - two giving out tests, one giving out instructions , three around the drop off point and maybe four others sorting out tests. A lot of NEC staff directing cars for probably three hundred cars?! I think the soldiers were from a gurka regiment - very polite and trying to do the best of what they had but weren’t even suited up. I wouldn’t of been surprised if they were spreading it as I didn’t see them change their surgical/diy masks or gloves (they didn’t touch the cars only to throw in instructions/tests/hold the box for the completed masks) but I felt bad how they were just left to deal with the task and do what they could.

That's horrible. Poor soldiers

Servers · 03/05/2020 14:54

Its ridiculous that they are suing soldiers to be honest, especially as they also haven't been given adequate PPE. The fact that they cannot say no to what they are being directed to do plays a large part I suspect. Many people will administer the test incorrectly because it is actually quite hard, what a waste of time and money really.

Went to Nottingham today for ours and they did them for us. A bit up the nose and a bit at-the back of the throat (made me gag).

Really quiet there. About 5 'docks' and more staff than testees. They showed us whatt9 do with the app so it's just waiting now.

Anyonewannawoo · 04/05/2020 08:06

Morning all,

bloody hell I was hoping I’d have it back by now but nothing. I’m classed as a key worker so another day out of play.

OP posts:
nellodee · 04/05/2020 08:37

Let's face it, you only got tested so the government could say it had tested 100,000 people. You getting the results back is immaterial.

Anyonewannawoo · 04/05/2020 12:32

@nellodee

It’s disgusting. I’m classed as a key worker therefore I need to get back to work ASAP as they’re struggling to cover me.

Saw this today which is exactly my experience.

@Babysharkdoodoodood That’s reassuring as I’m at the Nottingham one tomorrow for testing and was worrying about having to sit in the car for hours like I’ve read about at other centres.
