Will the lockdown be lifted for close family next weekend?

“ The Govt often talks about what it might do without doing it.”

I thought the press were doing that, not government.

Megan2018 · 03/05/2020 23:47

I do hope not! It’s too soon.
If they do we will carry on regardless, our family are not local and I have no wish to get close to anyone else yet.

I was listening to the radio last night and they were interviewing Tom something (sorry didn't get his name). He thinks there will be a slight easing on Thursday but the main announcement will be on Sunday with a roadmap and real change coming after the late May bank holiday.

So sorry, not BBQs (with non household-members) at the weekend. But I am hoping we might be allowed to meet in small groups outside.

All speculation but here’s my thoughts...
No way will they ease lockdown on Thursday with a bank holiday weekend the day after. BBC report today road map plan will be announced on Sunday by Boris. Another 3 week extension to cover the end of May bank holiday and time for business and schools to put in place a safe return to the “new” normal. Full steam ahead after that with restrictions lifted every 3 weeks or so depending on the data with possibility of reintroducing if data is pointing to another peak.

CKBJ · 04/05/2020 08:44

I didn’t mean BBC reported another 3 week extension etc, just they reported roadmap to be released Sunday

booboo24 · 04/05/2020 09:27

I think (& hope) some sectors will be given the go ahead to reopen, but generally another 3 week extension to cover the May bank holiday, then some slight easing of restrictions to meet small groups of people outside, then 3 weeks later some more relaxation of the rules depending on infection rates. I want nothing more than for this to be lifted, but only when safe. I'm missing my fiance and parents massively but I'm getting evermore hermit-like as time goes on!

Underhisi · 04/05/2020 09:35

I doubt it till after the end of May bank holiday.
My family live 150 miles away so I doubt I will see them anytime soon and dh's are shielding or caring for people that are shielding so the same there.

HarrietOh · 04/05/2020 10:43

Hopefully they consider people who have been completely alone for the past 6 weeks - people are massively struggling now they need to be able to see another person.

LilacTree1 · 04/05/2020 11:49

Harriet I don’t think they give a toss that many of us are alone. I think they just expect us to chat with a volunteer, who will ha e been trained to repeat their mantras.

OneForMeToo · 04/05/2020 12:01

I expect it to be carry on as it is until after the end of May bank holiday. Bank holidays always cause a huge rush to beaches and parks let alone a finally out of lockdown and bank holiday combined. You would just be egging on the second wave. I expect it will be slow release though June/July.

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2020 12:03

I think the main announcement is Sunday, so folks don’t all rush out and party like it’s 1999 on the bank holiday weekend.
