Anyone on infliximab had covid 19?

I am 46 and have crohns and am on infliximab. Would like to hear some positive stories. My kids are 3 and 7 and I'm scared.

Is it similar to adalimunab? That's being trialled as a possible Covid treatment. It's very early stages so obviously continue to take all precautions you can to protect yourself. It's looking possible that immunosuppressants might actually help. Those taking them might be more likely to catch Covid but less likely to suffer severe complications.

I should make it clear that at this stage it's only a possibility and might turn out not to be the case. But it may give you some hope.

I have crohns and my son has UC. we are both just about to start on adalimubab.
I was frantic at first especially for him, but have calmed down as I havent seen anything linking any 'typical' IBD treatment to deaths and Ive read a lot!

I'm on Azathioprine for Crohn's. I haven't been tested but I believe I had it a month ago. I felt like I was going to die at one point. I rang my GP and they prescribed antibiotics. I was ill for about 3 weeks in the end. I am fully recovered now. It is a nasty virus and I found the cough the worst bit.

As Toffee says, there’s some anecdotal evidence that immunosuppressants are actually helpful in treating Crohns, as it prevents or minimises the cytokine storm.

I’m on Stelara and I think I had it in the winter although not at all sure. :)

We got a grid system through the post grading me as vulnerable, borderline shielding. I'm on tremfya. I got COVID (I think) just over a month ago. Lasted a week and a half, some breathing difficulties lasted (I also have asthma) but I'm now fine.

Adalimumab is humira I think. It's different from infliximab but the same drug family I think.
Thanks everyone for your responses. It is reassuring. I havent felt well since yesterday but I've been isolating for 8 weeks so dont know how. The only interaction we have is with the food delivery driver once a week. I'm trying not to panic. I worry about my kids too. I know they are unlikely to die from covid but it's not impossible.

I'm just not sure if we can all live like this until a vaccine or treatment is available. So I would like.to.feel like I could survive covid if I got it.

Hi all, just a quick update. I didnt have covid -19. I think i got a small dose of live MMR vaccine (from my 3 year old) as I cant think what else it could have been.

My crohns is not under control even with the infliximab. I cant get near my consultant so i paid for a private consultation with a London professor and he told me that they are using some of the immune suppressant drugs as treatments for the sickest covid patients. He also said they weren't really seeing crohns patients in the hospitals with covid. He was very reassuring. I thought i would let you all know.

@ToffeeYoghurt (or anyone) do you have any more info on the Adalimumab

I’m on infliximab and had Covid. It wasn’t too bad (there was only one day when I couldn’t do anything), just strange as I had never experienced anything like the shortness of breath before. I felt totally normal again within two weeks.

That’s interesting, thank you! I’d also heard anecdotal talk around those of us who artificially suppress our immune system, now potentially benefiting from that as CV can over stimulate a healthy one. But would love to see something more ‘official’ 😊

A friend is on this biological. They think they had covid in March/April (pre being told to shield) and did not have severe issues. Just generally felt unwell for a short time. Not tested, just what they think x

Our young daughter is on adalimumab but is also on high dose of steroids atm too. We are strictly shielding as a family, and will do so until safe.

Im not sure what drug they are using on covid patients to reduce the immune system severe response but its slightly reassuring that being on any of the immune suppressants drugs may help in the fight against a severe response.

I was ill a few weeks ago with a lot of chest pain, and it still hurts now. I had a covid test and it was negative. My only thought is that i got it from my sons preschool booster as thats a live vaccine so i had a low dose of MMR. We havent been anywhere else to get anything. My family are saying if i got sick from a childs vaccine how bad would i get from covid!

Following as I am on azathioprine for crohns and often wonder if I would be able to fight Covid if I caught it!

A different drug, I know, but it might be of interest.
Apologies for any confusion. I don't think adalimumab is being trialled at present. It's been discussed as a potential treatment. The Lancet published an article about a month ago calling for a trial. Perhaps evidence has since indicated it isn't a contender after all.
