Apparently we're getting 500 each off the government? Anyone else heard this?

No, where was that reported?

DGRossetti · 02/05/2020 17:12

It's in Wales. Here's a letter from the Welsh Assembly asking for it not to be taxed or affect benefits.

As far as I can tell, it's for social care workers in Wales, not for NHS workers

Ilovecats14 · 02/05/2020 17:36

If this was happening I'd have expected to have known (through work) and I don't.

For some reason I don't need to look to see if it'll be in England. I know the answer is no.

Ilovecats14 · 02/05/2020 17:44

I know it is no. Apologies I should have made my first message clearer.

incognitomum · 02/05/2020 17:46

Just googled yes just Wales and for care workers which I am. Sad

It's Welsh care workers, they deserve it, most of the care workers earn minimum wages. But I'll believe it when I see it, and so will all the lovely people I work with.

surprisinglyordinary · 02/05/2020 18:26

It's a drop in the ocean but something at least. I hope it comes to England too. I'm not a careworker but I work with them in my job and it is hard work and underpaid IMHO.

Imapotato · 02/05/2020 18:36

Care workers deserve it. It’s a shame it’s only Wales and not the rest of the U.K.

Having work in both social care and for the nhs I know where I felt more supported, where I was paid better and had better terms and conditions of employment. You guessed it... it wasn’t in social care.

They work super hard, for very little reward, except job satisfaction, often have very little job security, and are constantly branded unskilled workers by people on mn.

*having worked

TwatCat · 02/05/2020 23:25

I'll believe it when I see it. We will probably be taxed on it too regardless of the "please don't tax them" letters.

incognitomum · 03/05/2020 08:10

I'm glad for the Welsh care workers but think we in the rest of the UK should get it too.

Not only do I have to keep service users entertained in isolation but cope with the mental health issues connected to it. Plus am shopping for various people who can't go out. They'd be supported in this anyway but we're doing it alone on top of our hours, unpaid.

I worry more about them using against some of the very low earners so it messes up their benefits
