To think the govt timed the lockdown about right

With more and more people flouting the rules for lock down, it seems the government were about right as to when to call it. There is a limit to how long people will isolate for.

Lockdown was to prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed. It did that of a fashion - but only because many people weren’t admitted for treatment until it was too late (if at all).

Therefore I’d guess that earlier lockdown would have saved lives, because then the threshold for treatment could have been lower, due to fewer people becoming ill at the same time. And earlier treatment has better outcomes (I believe one of the reasons Germany has fared better).

No. Government has messed it up. Lockdown was too late. Also should have quarantined those coming from abroad rigorously. There were a couple of news stories about people being quarantined when they came from abroad, but for most people there was nothing at all.
