Health care worker really sore throat should I get tested?

They say you have to have at least 2 symptoms to be tested but I've had a really sore throat since yesterday morning and I've finished my working week now. I have been around a few different departments where social distancing doesn't exist and I've been where there's quite a lot of people off with symptoms and have been tested positive. I'm normally fit and healthy and never get unwell (touch wood). Would it be reasonable to tell a little white lie and say I've had a bit of a cough as well just so they will test me so that I know for definite and can protect others?

If you can I would, it’s all I had (rest of the family had classic symptoms). I had a sore throat 3-4 mornings running as achey muscles for a few days like I’d over-exercises

@HibiscusPot did you test positive with them symptoms?

I think it was announced on Tuesday that health care workers can now be tested if they have no symptoms.

There is spare capacity at testing sites - about 30,000 appointments a day - so you won't be taking a test from someone else

Go for it.

Just an aside I've had a sore throat since we started wearing masks for the full shift, think it's cause I'm mouth breathing to stop my glasses steaming up. It goes off after a day off work.

I have an on/off sore throat, feel like I've been hit with a sledgehammer loaded with lethargy powder and keep getting headaches and have increased mucus in sinuses/nose. Yet I know this isn't covid as I've had it for 4-5 weeks and it comes and goes and appears to be hayfever!! It's so hard to differentiate between symptoms of something else and covid! Now they've opened up testing to all keyworkers I will go if I develop a new symptom

I am using the Zoe app and for the past few days have logged a sore throat and hoarse voice. I received an email inviting me to go for a test with a link to book it. They said they are doing algorithm testing and the government have said they can request testing. So I am off later this morning for my test. I am certain I don't have covid19.

I say as a care worker go! You need to know you are safe for the people you care for.
