My FIL is:
80
Widowed last month
Doesn't drive
Cancer in lungs (and other places, did not originate in lungs)
Not currently on treatment. Cancer incurable.
Elderly with no mobile phone, no internet, no devices etc.
He doesn't know if he has received any letters from NHS/GP etc. He finds letters taxing and difficult to deal with. MIL dealt with them when she was alive.

He is 100 miles from us. I don't know how to get him shopping. I can't just get a random food box as he can only cook very specific stuff that we showed him. He learnt to heat things recently.

I put him onto my Tesco account and they marked his address as vulnerable for me but can't get a slot.
I can't get a Waitrose slot on my account for him. Phoned them and they couldn't do anything to my account to help me get shopping for him. Can't get vulnerable note on there or anything. They advised me to register him on the government site but I can't as we don't know if he has received any hospital GP letter, so can't affirm that he has and therefore it says ineligible.

We have been driving shopping to him. 4 hours round trip at least as no motorway. What can I do?

Register him on the gov site with your email address. It sounds like he should be on the list, if he’s been missed it’s a way to get him on the list as they will check with his GP.

Hi OP,

I'm a Covid volunteer (registered with the Council).

It's all very organised. We have a local hub and are allocated a household to support and have had to do online safeguarding training.

I'm allocated to an elderly lady in a similar situation to your FiL.

I call her daily to see how she is/have a chat and deliver shopping to her as needed. I'm also in touch with her family (who are not local) so we can keep up to speed with how she's doing (and I've even managed using my iPad to arrange a FaceTime call with her family a few times albeit obviously at a distance).

Her family had arranged for Wiltshire to deliver her meals she can freeze/re-heat but I've been keeping her stocked with essentials like bread/milk and any food she needs for breakfast/lunch, delivering her newspaper etc and getting medication from the chemist.

There are so many volunteers in our local community that they've actually now said they are oversubscribed so it's very likely you'll find someone to help you.

As pp's have said contact the local council who in tern will connect you with the hub closest to your FiL.
