Will my holiday 28th June go ahead (shielding)

Hello,

I booked flights last year, due to depart UK 28th June with Jet2 to France. I have received a letter asking me to shield 12 weeks from the date of my letter (1st of April), which takes me until 24th June.

I don’t want to go on this holiday due to the anxiety it would cause travelling, but I am wondering whether I will lose money or whether it will be cancelled. Jet2 say they are resuming flights from 17th June and I’m doubting my travel insurance will cover me if I’m no longer required to shield according to written documentation.

I’ve got a holiday booked in October and I don’t feel it will be safe to take my son who is shielding - definitely wouldn’t risk end of June.

The 12 weeks may end up being extended.

Sorry but I think it highly unlikely to go ahead.

Honeyroar · 27/04/2020 22:28

I’d very much doubt it. I think these holiday firms are trying to be optimistic and keep hanging onto people’s money. But I think they’re being irresponsible. I think they’ll have to keep rolling it back.

@WitchDancer don’t be sorry! If it doesn’t go ahead that’s good because I’ll get a refund! If it goes ahead I will be out of pocket.

Fingers crossed for a refund!

@Summerflowers79:
Government document (England) on shielding was updated on 17th April.
The shield for 12 weeks bit has been removed and it now says "The Government is currently advising people to shield until the end of June and is regularly monitoring this position".

Pretty sure you can call 111 for a new shielding letter. I got called yesterday by NHS and told to shield for 12 weeks. Entirely arbitrary dates.

Thank you that’s very helpful!

my holiday with British Airways has been cancelled and that was on 30th June. I think they say a date but then it gets extended so they dont have to refund or rebook so many holidays in one go so it's likely that yours will be cancelled

GreenTulips · 28/04/2020 09:23

I think they’ll cancel

Just had a refund for mine at the end of May.

I’d give them time to process, I should imagine they’d re all very busy at the moment and doing holidays on a daily basis one month in advance

Jet2 aren't 'definitely going to start flying again from 17 June' more that they definitely won't fly again before that date.

They'll only be able to start flying again from 17 June if the countries they fly to are letting people from the UK in with no restrictions (who knows?), those countries are relatively 'open' - no-one's going to want to go on holiday if they can't leave the hotel room while they are there or there's no restaurants etc open, you can't go to the beach/other attractions and if that's the case, we'll probably still be under FCO 'no non essential travel' instructions and then, Jet2 will probably extend their closure, given that their flights serve mostly the UK leisure market.

But they've been very good about refunding, but unfortunately due to having to get through everyone who's booked with them, they won't get to you until some time in June I would have thought. We had a flight only booking with them for this week, and we had an email at the weekend telling us we will be refunded within 2 weeks. Others who have booked holidays with them at Easter have already had their money back.
