Life after lockdown - hairdressers?

So with life to continue with social distancing for quite some time even after lockdown lifted, they are talking about shops, restaurants and pubs re-opening with such businesses being asked to apply the 2 metre distance rule. I wonder what this means for hairdressers though as that’s going to be tricky. What are your thoughts?

Apparently they are opening in Italy on the 1st June.

No idea I am not planning on getting my hair cut or coloured for a long time to come though. Not greying yet and I had a good few inches off at the start of January.

If I wanted it doing though I would probably get a mobile hairdresser to come round. I feel like that would lessen the risk, what with the hairdryers blasting the air around.

I guess once restrictions are lifted people will make their own risk assessments.

I think they will open relatively soon once things start opening back up. They quite often get a mention in other countries plans so I don’t see why it would be any different here. I hope they do anyway!!

I find it hard to believe though as almost everyone is going to need s haircut and can’t imagine a lot of people wanting to leave the house until they’ve paid a visit to hair salon

I think they will reopen in June with reduced bookings to only allow so many people in at once.

It will be similar to construction where they are advised if you cannot keep two metres away, then apply common sense and hygiene rules.

They could wear ppe. Which is what my hairdresser was doing before lockdown was enforced. She also reduced her clients to only allow one in at a time with plenty of time for cleaning in between. When I arrived I washed my hands (and she washed hers) and I didn’t have any refreshments.

I have no issue with going to the hairdressers. I would expect the salon to have scrupulous health and hygiene. Hairdressers to wear gloves and mask. Towels and gowns to be worn once and washed. Chair and tools to be sanitised between each client

I really hope they open the salons soon. I have a number of good friends who are hairdressers and its really worrying for them.

My lovely hairdresser went off on maternity leave at Christmas, I managed to get an appointment in before she went but now I have a double problem, need a haircut urgently, but also need to find a new hairdresser . This will be my fourth hairdresser in two years after nearly 10 years with the same one.

I know, it's not an earth shattering issue . I am living with it.

It is weird- in Australia they are still allowed. No pedicures or massages but apparently haircuts are safe

Man I miss my hairdresser, the husband looks scared when I'm huffing in a mirror and pulling it about.... Because he knows it'll have to be him.

I'm bloody desperate for my hairdresser to open again, hair needs doing, I usually get it done at least once a week. Nails need doing too

Wow I'm shocked at the number of people that would go straight and get their hair done once restrictions lifted. Maybe I'm unusual in thinking I'd avoid these sort of risks for couple of months at least.

I've coloured my hair but it's darker than I'd like so if the hairdressers doesn't open soon I'll be trying to lighten it myself!

People risk assess differently. If my hairdresser is happy to be working then I’m happy to visit her. The risk from Covid for me is negligible, I’m not afraid of catching it, and I’m pretty certain people who work in salons are going to be keeping them more hygienic than e.g. supermarkets anyway.

Our hairdressers re-opened today (Switzerland).
Along with beauticians and tattoo parlours

Not booked an appointment as yet, I will wait and see what people are saying about it. I would love a haircut - though will be continuing to work from home until at least June, so I can hold out.

The DIY shops and garden centers also re-opened today. I would love to go to and get bedding plants. However, according to the local paper, the gardening center had a queue of 100 people at 7.25 this morning (it opened at 7.30)

Honestly don’t know how this will work with salons. I’m a hairdresser and terrified of going back to work. We simply can not social distance. I work in a small salon (5 employees) but this could mean 20 people in a small space at any point in time. It’s ok saying to space people out 2 meters apart etc but we would literally not make any money doing this. 🤷‍♀️

I also think hairdressers will be one of the first groups to be given the go ahead to reopen. My countries seen them to be reasonably essential services and are opening them up again, so I see no reason why our government will not follow suit.

I cannot wait to get my hair coloured and cut (I’d settle for just the colour) and my hairdresser is regularly posting on Facebook about how she can’t wait to get back to work so I’ll be banging down the door on opening day, whilst following as many of the social distancing guidelines possible.

My hairdresser has a small salon in her home, and usually overlaps her clients, but was saying that if she’s allowed to start working she will only have one in at a time and wipe down with disinfectant in between. But obviously can’t do much about being near clients herself - so she’s resigned to being shut for a while yet. Once she’s happy (and allowed) to open, I’d be happy to go.

I’m pretty sure they will open by June, if they take precautions
