Covid and food- very worried

Hi, I have extremely bad anxiety so I can’t tell if I’m being ridiculous but I think I probably am.

My friend has kindly dropped off some cupcakes for me that she bought from a local cake seller in her area. I’ve looked up the lady’s social media from the sticker on the box and she’s a home baker, seems quite successful.

They’ve been sitting in my hall since yesterday morning, I’m too scared to eat them since I read an article in the stupid daily mail saying if a neighbour was to drop off some cakes for you, you should dispose of them! I’ve googled about covid and food and it just says there’s no evidence about it being transmitted that way, but that doesn’t mean it’s risk free does it?

I’m anxious about everything to do with this virus, and was anxious about pretty much everything in life before it too, my friend was so lovely to order these for me and I feel very down that I can’t let myself have one. Does anyone know if it’s safe?

Thank you for the replies, it’s so difficult due to being this anxious. The slightest thing makes me panic and as covid is so new, I know that nothing is really certain yet.

Jo, those breakfast muffins sound incredible! I will do as you suggested I think and keep the cakes in a cool place, I’ll transfer them to an airtight container. Surely the virus wouldn’t still be present after a week or so? The cakes won’t be at their best but I don’t mind that.

Rihanna I totally get what you’re saying, this is my thought process at the moment too.

Hannah that made me smile!! Never thought about microwaving but I can’t stand melted buttercream 😱

I think that if you're so worried that you're actually going to leave them in a tin for a week, by which time they'll be past their best, then you might as well throw them away now.

I am not doing any takeaways as I wouldn't feel comfortable eating food straight away when I don't know if the person who cooked it is ok. But it was delivered yesterday morning, so would be fine by now. Enjoy the cake.

I think they would be fine. if you are worried maybe heat them in the oven for five mins before eating.

Personally, I’d eat them but as they’re causing you so much stress, just bin them.
