Hello,
I'm Just asking because of something that happened yesterday.
We went to Asda, we know some (15-20) of the staff there, because my DD works there. We had a chit chat (2 meters apart) with a few of them, as we seen them on the way round. Everybody was giving us dirty and Judgy looks. Is there anything wrong with doing this while your doing a big shop??

Tbh OP, my OH is a regional manager for one of the companies you mentioned, and your experience seems a million miles away from what's 'supposedly' being nationally implemted. So you either need to support your Dd/DH to legitimately challenge it... Or not over egg the pudding.

Wafflehouse · 25/04/2020 10:01

Breaks are unpaid at Sainsbury’s. They can’t dictate what you do in your own time. If they want to spend their break doing their shopping, they’re perfectly entitled to.

Wafflehouse · 25/04/2020 10:04

I also regularly work until and beyond close of trade, there has to be a self scan till left open for night shift to buy food for their breaks. As long as you’re not buying alcohol outside of trading hours it’s not an issue.

Stellaris22 · 25/04/2020 10:10

Stopping to say hello and a very brief chat would be ok. Most people are feeling the loneliness so a quick chat would be ok with me but only if:

  • it was a very quiet time so no queue outside. If I'd been queuing then saw people talking then I wouldn't be happy
- you genuinely weren't getting in the way

But being mindful that people are anxious and shopping can be very stressful right now is important.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 25/04/2020 10:11

A 12 hour shift at Asda, 7 days a week is not allowed. Even in pandemic.

It also entiles you to an unpaid lunch, where they can not dictates what you can do.

Can't help wonder if op excpeted more flaming. Its doesn't take a rocket sceinetist to work out why people were annoyed. They dropping in the she has to take the kids with her, despite there being 3 adults in the house. The odd claims about their working hours.

Just feels like there subtle drip feeding in the hope of set hysterics off.

myrtleWilson · 25/04/2020 10:22

You do seem to have trouble with supermarkets OP - what with the Sainsbury's security guard incident. Could you not have left the 5 year old at home with your 14 yr old for your shop then you wouldn't have had a small child in the aisle?

myrtleWilson · 25/04/2020 10:32

But hats off to your six figure earning husband doing the hard yards of 12-14hr shifts 7 days per week at your local Sainsbury's..

Year6teacher754 · 25/04/2020 10:38

@myrtlewilson

He has been furloughed so is now working at Sainsbury's for the time being.

OP posts:
Shitsgettingcrazy · 25/04/2020 10:41

Working at sainsbury whilst being furloughed is going to fuck his tax up, as a high earner

AStarSoBright · 25/04/2020 12:13

And could also be against the furlough agreement. Furloughed staff in my office, and many other places, have had to sign an agreement not to work elsewhere whilst on furlough.

Floatyboat · 25/04/2020 13:07

@Shitsgettingcrazy

Why?

Dadnotamum72 · 25/04/2020 13:13

It wont mess his tax up, he'll just pay at a higher rate at Sainsbury than those he's working alongside.

Nixen · 25/04/2020 13:15

Worlds biggest Asda clearly

Shitsgettingcrazy · 25/04/2020 13:30

He has gone from 6 figure earner. To the furlough cap, then to 2 paying Jobs and then, hopefully, back to 6 figure.

If people don't think their tax is going to be difficult, they are naive.

Not saying he shouldn't do it, but it might cause issues later.

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 14:29

Shit my work situation was chaotic the last couple of years

HMRC stunned me by being very efficient!

Unworthie · 25/04/2020 14:53

YABU

Other people waiting outside may not have all day long to queue and shop like a lot of us do. Some are still working. My friend misses key workers time after her nightshift because she doesn't finish in time.
It's not 7 days a week but it is 5 at the moment. So she queues like everyone else does and can imagine she'd be less than impressed to have queued for ages to come in after her 12-14 hour shift and find you having a chat and that's what's been holding the job up. Also some people can't stand and queue for a long time.

We really should all be doing what we can to get through quickly and without fuss to keep the queues going as well as possible.

ViciousJackdaw · 25/04/2020 15:54

You'd think a teacher would have more sense tbh

Yes and you'd also think they would know it's 'we saw', not 'we seen'.

Year6teacher754 · 26/04/2020 09:19

@Dadnotamum72
Yes, that is exactly what is happening.

OP posts:
Year6teacher754 · 26/04/2020 09:42

@MrsFezziwig @Stellaris22
Next time I go in , if they come up to me again I will say hello and have a quick chat (less than a minute) and then carry on with my shopping.

OP posts:
Year6teacher754 · 26/04/2020 09:48

@Alb1

Sorry if this comes across as rude, but I would just politely ask them if I could just pick up an item or wait patiently.

OP posts:
LEELULUMPKIN · 26/04/2020 09:50

You say in your post OP "we" how many were you? All the shops around here only allow one adult in at a time or with a child if having no other option.

Perhaps all those single shoppers were pissed off at that, as would I have been.

Floatyboat · 26/04/2020 09:57

And it is people like op that means we will remain in the longest lockdown in Europe. Why chat for a minute. Just say hi and move on.

Year6teacher754 · 26/04/2020 09:59

@LEELULUMPKIN

It was me, my 21 month old (in the trolley) and my 5 year old.

OP posts:
AStarSoBright · 26/04/2020 11:14

@Year6teacher754 please just say hello and move on, you don't stop, not even for a quick chat. We all see friends while we're in the supermarket or at the chemist, imagine if everyone stopped for a quick chat. How selfish.
