Listening to him now on Radio 4 trying to big up what government is doing. Turning negatives into crazy unbelievable positives.

Who does he think he’s kidding?

I think he is working hard and largely means well but he keeps making promises he can’t keep, which completely undermines confidence in him, and he has been involved in some really poor decisions (chiefly not to test, contract trace and isolate at the beginning or to quarantine people coming in from hotspots). I don’t like the way he refuses to acknowledge mistakes either.

The scientists on channel four Wednesday night mentioned Michael Gove's comments about experts in 2016. One of them had to hide a small smile that he is now saying ' follow the science' and they are all now taking advice from , well, experts.

Ministers are not donkeys but just ignorant sometimes of how some things work. That's the problem with having ministers whose background isn't from the jobs they are leading.
Teachers were critical of Michel Gove as education secretary because he hadn't much idea of how life really is in schools. Surely having ministers recruited from an education or health background might be a better way of running things in the future ?
Maybe this will be a learning curve and prove things have to change a bit? Put more trust in people that are trained in certain areas and not just career politicians?
Who knows.

They've said many, many, many times that it's hard to source PPE and there's a global shortage with everyone battling to get it

Which is obviously why British manufacturers of PPE are exporting their goods to Europe. Oh wait, no it isn't! It's because whenever they contact HM Government they get no reply.

Mr Wankcock told the media that 84 tonnes of PPE would be arriving from Turkey. What a pity his department hadn't even ordered it. The man's a liar, and not even a good one.

vera99 · 24/04/2020 12:44

The problem, in a nutshell, is that this idiot who is coming back to work next week latched onto herd immunity as a magic bullet to transform Brexit Britain into a global powerhouse lead by a superman (him). Hence Cheltenham et al on steroids and no planning at the vital stage. Thousands lie dead because of him, his leadership and his lies. And yet no MSM will run this video why is that?

PicsInRed · 24/04/2020 12:56

He was desperate to become leader in the summer

Many compete for leader, knowing they won't get it, in order to bargain for a senior cabinet role.

hettie · 24/04/2020 13:03

You can almost hear him think... He (and many of the third rate cabinet) are not exactly inspiring are they...
I am neither an epidemiologist, nor a public health specialist... but two weeks ago I came to the conclusion that the country urgently needed to be recruiting and training contact tracers in order to manage any letting up of lockdown... I was baffled as to why their wasn't an urgency to this- why no team in charge of creating this capacity... Two weeks later and its only just occurred to him...

Theduchessstill · 24/04/2020 13:06

Yes, but he didn't want a low-key role did he? It shows he is ambitious - nothing wrong with that necessarily but when it comes before erverythng else AND it turns out you're not actually particularly efffective, inspiring or even competent ... well, that's another matter and makes it very hard to feel sympathy imo.

Theduchessstill · 24/04/2020 13:07

Sorry, that was a reply to Pics.

PicsInRed · 24/04/2020 20:32

Theduchessstill

The biggest issue is the creakingly slow bureaucracy, which I would imagine will have a gleaming scythe taken to it the instant this is all over.

This man does not deserve to be broken and destroyed. Those sentiments I find revolting (and any attempt to justify them).

MaxNormal · 24/04/2020 20:40

Having just found out that Cummings is on SAGE, I will no longer be given any cabinet members the benefit of the doubt.

tootyfruitypickle · 24/04/2020 20:44

I’m really surprised how badly they are managing the pr. Nicola sturgeon said basically nothing yesterday yet everyone has held her up as being more transparent. I can’t stand the Tories but the fact they can’t even spin properly is quite surprising to me! They don’t seem to have any idea of how to sell their message.

Wingedharpy · 24/04/2020 21:35

Nicola Sturgeon really has the gift of the gab - with bells on.
She uses Margaret Thatcher's technique ie. start talking and don't stop or pause for breath.
I'm not fond of her but find her interview skills very impressive.

Matt Hancock, unfortunately, doesn't come across well IMHO.
He starts off defensive and it goes downhill from there.
Having said that, who would want his job at the moment?

1forsorrow · 25/04/2020 08:16

Vera99 thanks for the link. I'm sure the idiot Johnson would like that to disappear.

Thousands lie dead because of him, his leadership and his lies. And yet no MSM will run this video why is that? The propaganda machine is certainly in place, how is our media being controlled?

Frazzled2207 · 25/04/2020 08:25

I actually know him from school. He is a decent guy (or was...) but he’s woefully out of his depth here. That said I think he has the worst job of all right now.

He was a remainer who became a brexiter just to further his own career and I would never forgive him for that. But right now he genuinely is trying his best despite some serious errors and I don’t think he deserves to be scapegoated for the government’s shocking lack of preparedness or slowness to lockdown the country which has no doubt contributed to the very many lives lost.
