How would you get the country out of lockdown?
What would be first to go back to normal? What would change forever?

Open it all back up, those shielding to continue doing so with government support. Social distancing in place as much as possible (e.g restaurant tables 2m apart)
We need to get things going, a mental heath crisis is coming, kids will be affected. Reports suggest austerity has been responsible for an estimated 120,000 preventable deaths and we’ve got a shit ton more of that coming our way with the state this country’s going to be left in.

Coronavirus is not the only thing that kills.

Mainly Id be transparent with the public. Tell them why we can't ease any restrictions just yet. Tell them what we are looking and waiting for. I'd let them know the figures of new case or deaths or testing or whatever it is that we are looking for.

Wave one from the end of May - All the time make it known that I would enforce lockdown again at a moments notice should it be required (ie if cases or deaths or whatever is actually being measured rises too much).

  • I'd get year 10 and 12 back to school.
  • I'd also let other shops re-open if they can maintain social distancing for customers and staff.
  • I'd give people the choice if they wanted to visit family members in their own homes they can.
  • I'd encourage care homes to allow relatives in, but only 1 or 2 at a time and only if they wore masks and made sure they used hand sanitiser on their way in (to help to stop bringing in CV-19)
  • I'd allow beaches, parks, woodlands etc be open, but have people (maybe the police, maybe volunteers, maybe a whole new role) to monitor that people are adhering to social distancing measures and no more than 10 people together. High fines for those who don't follow the rules.
  • Maintain WFH if it can be done so
  • I would have lots of public health information out there explaining about the risks of CV-19 and how to protect yourself, but I'd let people make the choice themselves if they wanted to make the risk
  • Encourage the use of facemasks when not at home or keeping the face covered
  • Testing, testing, testing.

Wave 2 - End of June. Ensuring the public are aware that this could go back to wave 1 or lockdown at any given moment.

  • Entertainment venues to open up, but have limited numbers of people allowed in.
  • More children back to school, but not everyone. Maybe primary age.
  • Gyms and leisure centres to open up, but again limited people. Lots of cleaning too.

Everyone is adhering where I am. Surprised to hear it’s not the case everywhere.
