Enlightening Twitter thread by Professor Anthony Costello, ex director of WHO. He’s probing why, even now, Whitty etc are not pushing for mass community testing and tracing - a strategy which is proving very successful elsewhere

FFS this is what I have been advocating for all along. Test, trace, isolate and to do that we need community testing centres. There is a moral imperative to do it too as when we reopen up the country it will be the wealthy who take up flights again and bring the virus back again. It will be the poorer and bame communities in lower paid jobs and deprived areas who are worse affected by ongoing CV deaths, because of links with obesity, exposure etc., much like is the case already. Right from the start we needed more of bottom up community approach which is how Ebola was eventually eradicated.

We are still focusing on lack of ppe and these testing centres that require a car Hmm. God can we just put someone else in charge.

This is exactly what we need. Repeated lockdowns will be disastrous for education, the economy, mental health.

We need more testing and strict track and trace measures. I'd be happy to allow government tracking devices on my phone if it means we can get out of lockdown.
