Level with me, when will England lift lockdown (date)?

I heard when death rates consistently fall, when there is a vaccine (18 months ?), June 2020.

Don't know what to believe.

Nobody knows.

RosesandIris · 22/04/2020 08:32

Do you mean only England, or Wales and Scotland too? Why just England?

lubeybooby · 22/04/2020 08:32

it shouldn't be til at least 2 weeks after Italy do, due to being roughly that far behind them.

Other countries lockdowns have been 8/9 weeks + and we shouldn't expect any different

P0lka · 22/04/2020 08:33

I'll text boris and ask...

None of us can say.

Doyoumind · 22/04/2020 08:34

It won't happen all in one go and nobody knows when restrictions will be lifted as the decisions have not yet been made. Surely you are aware of this already.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/04/2020 08:34

Probably just England because she lives there.

I’m hoping it’ll be lifted after this stint of lockdown., so two weeks time.

Bluntness100 · 22/04/2020 08:34

No one knows, I’m hopeful that some light restrictions lift after the 11 may, because that will be us having locked down for nearly two months, and it can’t go on much longer, but I’m concerned they extend again.

HappyBirthdayQueenieMarm · 22/04/2020 08:35

Thanks Lubey that makes sense.

Because I live in England Roses.

Everyone else 😂

She said, he said. Nobody knows, but we like to speculate.

TARSCOUT · 22/04/2020 08:36

5th May

TARSCOUT · 22/04/2020 08:39

Oh wait 🙄 when it's on the news then and only then (unless BJ posts on MN) is when we'll know......

HappyBirthdayQueenieMarm · 22/04/2020 08:40

Wow so some think as early as sometimes in May? I feel fed up but also scared of going out. Sad

We're going on holiday to Mallorca in August, I've been hoping that we'll still be able to go as it's 'something to look forward to' ... reality hit me earlier that even if the travel ban lifts I couldn't sit in a plane for 3hrs, (practically on someone else's knee) breathing recycled air.

I think as soon as the lift the travel ban we will get the second wave 😢

Candy150 · 22/04/2020 08:42

11 May, lockdown will ease - a little. Government will allow small businesses to open , small shops as long as social distancing is implemented. Restaurants/cafes as long as spacing measures are introduced. Schools in June. Masks will need to be worn on all public transport.

They’ll monitor of course for increases in infection and if necessary will lockdown completely again.
Here’s hoping anyway...

HowManyWoodChucks · 22/04/2020 08:42

I think some restrictions will lift mid May/beginning of June. No idea when we will be back to ‘normal’.

HappyBirthdayQueenieMarm · 22/04/2020 08:42

The caustic replies are hilarious 😂

Fabulously what a shame but I get what why you would be wary of traveling in August even if the lockdown is lifted. I hope you have a lovely summer in some other way. The second wave prospect is very worrying.

Candy I appreciate the breakdown thanks.

How, thanks.

I agree with Candy150 - complete lockdown will end next month and restrictions will slowly be lifted

With furlough being extended until end of June seems sensible that that is when they are currently forecasting that the majority of the restrictions will be lifted

It's complete hysterical scaremongering to say we will be in lockdown until a vaccine/2021 - that's just ridiculous for the economy, education, employment and mental health

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/04/2020 08:49

Nobody knows of course but my personal view is some lifting of restrictions by the start of June. By that I mean allowed to visit family and friends again, some businesses reopening with social distancing measures in place - shops, offices, etc.

No large gatherings, no foreign travel and no pubs/clubs/cinemas open though.

cathyandclare · 22/04/2020 08:52

I agree with Candy- I think the govt setting out one of the criteria as avoiding a second wave is a very tough though.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 22/04/2020 08:58

Im in Scotland and I reckon mid August for us.
Thats the new academic year for schools. I can't imagine they wouldn't open the schools after the summer holidays.
Once schools are open, workplaces will follow....

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 22/04/2020 08:59

I think first week in June - they'll keep us in until after the Whit bank holiday, then lift cautiously and see what happens. Testing will never get to target levels, there will never be enough PPE for all that need it, there won't be an instruction to the public to wear masks, because PPE insufficient and they will be unaffordable. Vaccine will never be found, or at best production in the numbers needed will take years so it will be rationed.

Coffeecak3 · 22/04/2020 09:03

In France schools going back 11th May.
Gradual lifting of lockdown.
Looking at near normality mid July, probably to coincide with Bastille fête.

Ilikewinter · 22/04/2020 09:07

Yep im also going for end of May, Companys are already starting to open up, KFC, Pret, Burger King, selected B&Q, supermarkets are extending their hours, Next online has resumed. Following this will be self employed tradespeople, small shops. TGI has been told to plan for end of June with tables reduced to enable distancing. I think people will still be recommended to WFH so public transport isnt overloaded.

PegLegAntoine · 22/04/2020 09:07

Probably a stupid question - and it’s not something I have any investment in as no holidays booked etc - but does there come a point where travel bans become pointless because the virus has set in everywhere anyway? And we’d just be “swapping” cases? Or is it more because of the plane itself due to the confined space etc?
