Italy coming out of lockdown

Spoke with MIL yesterday and apparently they are coming out of lockdown on 4th May.

I know their numbers have been coming down but I'm still surprised, and they've been on lockdown for 2 months now, but it just seems so soon given the scale of cases they have had. They will have to do social distancing still, so things like limited numbers in supermarkets, wearing of masks compulsory, etc. but it sounds like the whole country will more or less open including restaurants, bars, schools, factories.

My understanding is that Prime minister Conte wants to try and co-exist with the disease, I suspect needing to get the economy going particularly as they rely heavily on tourism through the summer months.

I wonder if this will have an impact on our governments decision come May 7th? It's almost as if Italy will be the guinea pigs to see whether there is a second peak towards end of May, will certainly be interesting.

I am worried about this too. My Dad lives in Italy and is 81 with a heart condition (but his medication works well and he is fit for his age). I don’t want him to have to co-exist with the disease and catch it.

Italy is not just 'coming out of lockdown'. The government is due to publish its plan by the end of the week and everyone expects a phased return, not necessarily to normality, but to some version of it.

It's not as though on May 4 they'll be issuing an all clear. The virus hasn't gone away. It will still be a risk.

But the plan - to reduce the burden on the health service and give the very unwell the best chance at survival - has worked in that the number of ICU admissions has dropped well below peak levels, the total number of current infections is dropping (or starting to).

At some point, many of us need to go back to work so that families are fed and housed and clothed. There's no avoiding that, even if CV19 is still a risk.

As this country we will start to have it relaxed in a few weeks . How many times we can't stay lockdown until the virus has gone it's just until the health service can cope .
As soon as the death toll and the cases drop then they will relax . It's not back to normal yet anyway just relaxing slightly.

It’s not going to be a free-for-all but a set of regional decisions as to the sectors they need to start working.
For example, I’m in the industrial NE and they have already brought back some heavy industries on a reduced scale. Workers are tested for body temperature, distancing and PP equipment, all of which is declared to H&S and the police on a daily basis. Next to open should be export heavy industries.

In other Regions they are focusing on tourism. Or agriculture.

There is talk of Korean style apps to monitor movement. People testing positive will be obliged to carry their phones (like a criminal ankle cuff) and there will be a national register of recovered patients.

WFH will continue as the norm. No school until September and then probably half size classes to respect distancing.

Travel only with declared purposes and fines.

@TW2013 I know - can't see how they can but we have family members with restaurants in tourist resorts and they are gearing up to open....

Our prime minister in France has said similar. That they start to lift restrictions on the 11 May but life will not be as we knew it and we have to learn to live with the virus.
I know here, restaurants/cinemas will be the last thing to open though..

It has to happen. People are going quietly crazy at home. The economy is sinking. DH’s company dipped into loss making on 15th April.
I posted on another thread that in my Province according to the statistics I need to know 500 people to find one who tested positive for CVirus and 26,000 to know one who has died. I know neither.
We are extremely lucky compared to Lombardy and the population is strongly law abiding. They’ve been using some sort of satellite surveillance system and our region has had the lowest national number of lockdown breakers.
Following that logic they should also follow the Phase 2 guidelines pretty closely.

Businesses starting to open up slowly but surely. Hairdressers and smaller shops this week. From the 18th more places can open, and apparently you'll no longer have to carry the self-cert around and you'll be able to visit people. Bars etc iirc looking to open 1/6. Measures being put in place for SD.
