Can someone else do my job while I am furloughed?

Exactly as my title says really. I’ve been furloughed and someone else has been given several of my duties to do. I just wondered if this is allowed or if anyone knows. When I google it all I can find out is whether I am allowed to work or not.

I've been furloughed and my normal duties are being undertaken by other members of the team as the workload has reduced but stuff still needs to happen.

It makes sense that a smaller team can do more peoples jobs due to reduced workload? Are you worried about redundancy?

StartingGrid · 21/04/2020 21:32

Yes, someone else can do the work you would normally, surely you would be grateful for this or it would be a disaster to deal with when you go back?! I assume you have an issue with being selected for furlough, as opposed to your colleagues left working? As someone still working, I can assure you it's no walk in the park

Davespecifico · 21/04/2020 21:33

Oh yes! I’m a teacher and I’ve got TAs covering my teaching.

Branster · 21/04/2020 21:38

Yes they can if they, themselves, are not furloughed from the same company.
The business is still active, presumably, so work needs to be done for admin purposes or trading to keep the business from going under.
I expect the other person has to do more work than usual for the same pay as before whilst you can’t complete the work but receive some income.

Bluntness100 · 21/04/2020 21:39

Yes, it would be natural for companies to do this when the workload has decreased and doesn’t require as many heads.

Bluntness100 · 21/04/2020 21:40

Sorry I should add you’re not allowed to work at your job at all on furlough. It’s one of the conditions.

TheReluctantCountess · 21/04/2020 21:40

@Davespecifico that’s not on! Is it a state school or an academy?

LilyPond2 · 21/04/2020 21:45

Yes OP, it's allowed.

Robs20 · 21/04/2020 21:50

Yes. This is exactly what has happened to DH.

ladygracie · 21/04/2020 21:51

Oh I know I can’t work and I’m really pleased that it’s still being done as I work in a school.
Thanks for answering.
Startinggrid - I know it’s not easy & didn’t suggest it was. Apologies if that’s how it sounded though.
I’d rather not have been furloughed & the person doing my duties has my job in Sept so I’m being over sensitive about it all.
