What happens to childminders?

Will they be able to claim the 80% if they have had to close because they do not take care of the children of key workers? Just trying to work out if what our childminder is charging us is fair!

Childminders are normally self employed (some may own a ltd business and employee themselves through that). They will get help from the government if self employed but not until june.

We are paying full fees to our childminder for the time being. We want her to still be in business when this is all over.

I know some will have insurance which covers this (mine said she switched her insurance last year to someone who won't know cover her for this). Apparently her old insurance company would cover this.

Mine mentioned she will try and claim the normal 16 hours per week she gets for the 3 year olds (not sure how successful she will be in doing this) but isn't charging us any fees (thankfully!) this was before the whole world ended, her hubby has now been furloughed, so wonder if that was the case before she closed if she would have still said this.

In theory she will be able to claim as a self employed person.

At the moment we have been told that we can claim the 80% grant in June. We don't know they exact details of this though.
The 80% based on the previous three years tax returns and in my case has left me in a very difficult position as I was on maternity leave for two of them.
None of my parents are paying or have offered to.
I don't know if I'm going to be able to afford to reopen after all of this, I was already struggling financially.

We are paying ours in full as usual. We are being paid so seems fair. Plus she’s key to us being able to resume our jobs again when lockdown is over. She’s fab and been delivering boxes of craft supplies, seeds to grow and weekly challenges for the children. (School aged and little ones). We are very lucky to have her and want to keep her do will pay her.

So I guess she can claim 80% but not if I continue to pay her? But then she wouldn't get paid til June. So I will pay her but its frustrating as a have to take the time as unpaid leave because I can work from home but not with a toddler running around my feet.
