Sainsburys app crashed at checkout

So I managed to get a Sainsbos delivery slot, I have a health condition so must be on their list now. Had a full weekly slot plus bits for two different elderly friends/neighbours. I went to check out with 5 mins before the cut-off time but the app has crashed so i couldn’t complete the checkout process. I’ve been on hold to sainsburys for 30 mins and my call has cut to a weird ring tone. I’m not sure whether to stay on the line or if they’ve basically cut me off. Anyone had this happen?

My baby will be up in the night and I really need to go to bed but also need to sort this out. Will they allow me to check out tomorrow instead? I have an evening slot for tomorrow.

What lakequeen said. A few weeks ago it crashed on me at 10.50, it did sort itself out and it went through just before 11. (Before all the Covid stuff, I suspect it’s got worse since) Now I always do it in the afternoon and family know now that I might not be able to amend if they ask me later.

If the amendment hasn't gone through phoning them will do nothing they are picked first thing in the morning. So it will be too late. You will get the order you last checked out.

The app is useless at checkout. Ours crashes every time so we have to go on via the web to check out.

Nothing you can do this time.

In future checkout well before cut off time I usually allow at least 2 hours and if app freezes go onto website.

I've not been able to get through by phone since all this started.

lakequeen and Deelish75 that’s what I was wondering, if there is an ongoing problem with the app!

If I’d known about it, I would have used the website instead. With sainsburys, I usually only ever shop in store and use Tesco online. Never had any probs with the Tesco app and frequently update at the last minute.

In the past, I’ve had issues with the self check-outs at Sainsburys Local...the scales don’t recognise when I put lighter items in my bag and calls for assistance but the shop assistants are always busy serving customers at the till so often the help takes ages to come. Because if this, it’s actually quicker to go through the checkouts. I complained to sainsburys about this and it’s basically a known issue. Also had a conversation with a staff member about this once, as she was leaving the next day (to work for the NHS😊) she didn’t hold back and basically repeated what I already knew about their systems - sainsburys are aware of the probs but nothing is being done about it.

What I don’t get is why Sainsbos take millions from their customers yet don’t seem to want to invest any of it on sorting out app/technology issues 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve managed to get another delivery slot for tomorrow eve but feel awful about using up their slots in this way.

Just trying to check out my new slot, it’s doing the same thing 🤦🏻‍♀️ Repeatedly timing out and sending me through the checkout process again

I wouldn’t ever rely on checking out at the last minute - you never know what might delay you.

Great news you’ve got another slot - no need to feel bad about that, you need it.

Maybe restart your phone and see if that improves the app? I’ve been able to check out on it this morning so it’s defo working.

Also are you doing anything else while in check out process? If you open notifications or switch to another app (eg texting) that can feck it up.

Forgot to say I use the website, so I don’t think it’s the app that’s the problem I think it’s just the amount of people trying to check out at the same time. Try a couple of hours before cut off.

No I wasn’t doing anything else. Will just do it now to avoid making the same mistake. You only make the same mistake once so I know now! I have to say, it’s great that Sainsburys are managing their delivery slots well (Tescos still seems to be a free-for-all) but really hope once this is all over they improve their tech issues. The fact that I did get another slot has made this so much better, I do really need to avoid any risk for the next few months now so if I hadn’t got the second slot I would have been gutted. Will now use the second slot to do a two-week shop so I won’t need to use one next week.

I'm not sure it will deliver the old order, usually you have to click on amend and always checkout again, it'll only send an order if checked out.

Don’t feel awful about using a second slot. When I received the email from Sainsbury’s to say we’d been identified as vulnerable they said only one shop a week, but yet I could book two slots. I spoke to the delivery driver and he said they were quiet during the week and Sainsbury’s wouldn’t put slots up if they were still getting hammered - so I’ve gone back to booking two deliveries a week like I did before the pandemic. Guess we’re lucky we live in areas that aren’t too busy 😀.

OP I’ve been having the same issue for a few weeks. When the app crashes I’ve gone onto the website, signed in and checked out there.

I never got the email but could suddenly see slots - there are always lots when I go on and I think it’s ok to use one a week if it’s your only way to get fresh food.
