Ocado smart pass trials, tribulations and tiers

Milky77 · 12/04/2020 09:37

Background

On March 23, Ocado divided anytime and midweek smartpass members into random groups for access then realised that didn't work so divided us again into most loyal, loyal and near to miscellaneous tiers with having different levels of frequency for order delivery and indeed how many slots you can book in advance.

Certainly the most loyal and probably generally high average spend compared to local populations are the only ones being treated well. They are allowed to still book every seven days, can book 2-3 weeks in advance and are encouraged to book several slots over this time.

The rest of us are being treated with varying levels or service, disappointingly some have not had a single email since March 23 and still don't have access.

Those anytime pass members on the extremely vulnerable list by NHS England should be able to book every 7 days though aren't given the ability to book 2-3 weeks in advance. A few are apparently being called for fortnightly orders.

Ocado has been too greedy. They blame poor service on helping the extremely vulnerable but actually they let too many new and infrequent shoppers place orders putting too much stress on the system.

Complaints on social media are typically met with cut and paste replies. Both the call centre and chat comms have been shut down.

Those with weekly Reserved slots have had their places cancelled. The technology failed, or maybe actually wasn't fit for purpose anyhow

Let's hope we don't go to a third

Top tip is to try other companies including Morrisons who also deliver from warehouses.

Good luck to all

My delivery this week allowed me to reject the substitutions but the driver wouldn’t take them back even though I told him before he even unloaded the van. Luckily only one substituted item wasn’t suitable. He told me to give it to a neighbour and that I’d still get a refund. Felt bad but we wouldn’t have used it. The delivery before they took back the substitutions I didn’t want as I hadn’t touched the shopping so. Not sure if they’ve changed policy or email f it was a one off.

gillybean2 · 23/04/2020 22:39

Email f = if

Quarantino · 23/04/2020 23:57

The driver said the roads are so quiet they are finding they can get to places a lot quicker.

Oh yes, that makes sense! Maybe keep your phone on yellow...

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 24/04/2020 06:22

Ha!

Well this is interesting.

I'm still only allowed one delivery every 14 days. On my SmartPass.

And have been alternating deliveries to my address with deliveries to vulnerable relatives who use Ocado often but don't have a SmartPass.

Are you following me?

Ocado has emailed my relatives, all matey and "you're in the club!" offering them guaranteed every 7 days delivery.

Shock Hmm Grin

Mortification will kill me before virus ...

(Though it's obviously a relief that I won't have to spend so much time finding ways to keep their larder fully stocked.)

Yellowbutterfly1 · 24/04/2020 07:35

Yes I am greatfull that I got my delivery this morning even thought I had to wait more than 2 weeks since my last order and had to pay a delivery fee on top of my normal midweek delivery pass payment as a Friday was the only day available.

What I’m really not happy with is despite ordering weekly before all this started I am not worthy enough to be able to still order weekly. Peeved off yes, but such is life being told I am only worthy of having a delivery ever 14 days.
I have now looked on the website to see that they have allowed me now see available slots on one day only , again a Friday in 14 days and am expected to pay £6.99 delivery on top of my normal delivery pass amount. Why the hell should I.
I just want my normal Tuesday delivery slot that I have had for forever and which I am paying a delivery pass for.

Really not happy.

Yes, I also ignored the slots I would have to pay for until a midweek slot showed up - initially I could only see one day, then 3, then 7. I have one booked for next Thursday and can’t see anything now! Luckily Tesco are now actually prioritising their loyal customers (hint hint Ocado) and I can easily book a slot with them 4 weeks ahead so I am covered now until the end of May

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 24/04/2020 08:36

I had my delivery yesterday. The driver said there are still bring some selfish twats over ordering and that some days despite his Van being full, it is for three delivery points onlyShock

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 24/04/2020 08:37

But I have had no problems with booking since they started prioritising “loyal” customers

Yellowbutterfly1 · 24/04/2020 09:07

MrsElijahMikaelson1. You’ll probably find it’s a case of people needing to order 2 weeks worth of food because they aren’t worthy enough to be able to have a weekly slot.
My delivery today was the largest I’ve ever had as I waited over 2 weeks for it and have to wait at least another 2 weeks before another

Yellowbutterfly1 · 24/04/2020 09:09

So no, it isn’t people being ‘selfish twats’

FlyingFlamingo · 24/04/2020 09:12

They could also be buying for multiple households because of the lack of slots! I have offered to add to my order for my neighbour because she couldn’t get a delivery from anywhere because she has never shopped online so isn’t an existing customer anywhere

gillybean2 · 24/04/2020 10:02

@Yellowbutterfly1 my 14 day delivery came in Tuesday. I didn’t check for my next slug til the next day by which time the Tuesday slots in 2 weeks were all give but I managed to book a Wednesday one instead. So if you wait til Tuesday and get in early you may be able to swap to then. Or maybe book your slot to be sure if getting it and then see if you can change the delivery date on Tuesday.

I’m thinking of asking them to change me to an unlimited pass, not least now I know other people pay less for theirs than I pay for my midweek pass... 🤬

gillybean2 · 24/04/2020 10:03

Sorry for the auto corrects. Must learn to use preview when on my phone.

Actionhasmagic · 24/04/2020 12:05

I imagine huge orders are because people are getting food in for vulnerable neighbours (this is what we did) and with once a fortnight delivery for some this could easily add up. I don’t think people are stock piling like in the beginning or trying to be selfish - but maybe I’m wrong?

Freeasabirdy · 24/04/2020 12:16

You are not wrong as my weekly order is huge but I am buying for two shielding households as well as ours. How unprofessional of Grant in the lemon van.

BentBastard · 24/04/2020 12:37

Yes that was shitty from the driver. My order are bigger because they're less frequent, include stuff for neighbours, we need more stuff with 4 people home all day rather than 4 people out all day.

Every other family will be in exactly the same boat Hmm

TheGreatWave · 24/04/2020 12:46

Another reason my online shops are bigger is that I am now using it to get the majority of my shopping rather than my usual of picking some things up from elsewhere.

CloakedRed · 24/04/2020 13:29

I have been ordering for several households for the past few weeks, total bill was c£800 per week but it has reduced this week to c£450. I think this is because the monthly items such as washing powder, dishwasher tablets etc have all been sorted now and it’s just the regular weekly shop to do so maybe volumes will start to decrease.

Delivery has been at least 1 hour early.

WinstonWolf · 24/04/2020 16:32

I have had yet another copy&paste email about how they are working to identify shielding customers from the Government list.

This is in response to someone from the Government shielding team contacting them to confirm that dd is on the list, and asking if they can sort out a guaranteed slot.

It's so difficult knowing how much to order when you have no idea whether you'll be able to get another slot.

Between that and people shopping for multiple households, I'm not surprised they're delivering to fewer houses.

They shouldn't be cancelling deliveries to shielded individuals as with a pp. It's really worried me that this could happen to us.

Deliveries here are often hours early, but at least since Lockdown they've been nice enough to call first.

pinkpip100 · 24/04/2020 17:19

Sorry if this has been asked before, but has anyone not on the shielding list or a smart pass holder actually managed to get a delivery slot? I have been an Ocado customer for 10+ years but my frequency has varied in that time from weekly to monthly, and I am no longer a smart pass holder as I always go for the free midweek slots. My youngest daughter is vulnerable but not on the shielding list - although we are shielding her as best we can. I can't seem to get any access to the website, despite checking several times every day, day and night. Will I ever get a delivery slot??

WinstonWolf · 24/04/2020 17:26

I've just read on another thread about Ocado sending texts offering guaranteed slots to customers who haven't shopped with them in three years (and don't have a smart pass).

They now have a weekly slot.

What
The
Actual
Fuck?

They are apparently a more "loyal" customer than I am, when I've been having a weekly shop from them, and a Smart Pass for the last decade.

Absolutely beggars belief Angry

GiantKitten · 24/04/2020 18:32

My 7-8 delivery arrived at 5.50, which is pretty standard these days. I’m guessing with everybody home most of the time now the drivers don’t have to wait around very often?

GiantKitten · 24/04/2020 18:36

@gillybean2 I enjoyed your ‘next slug’, thank you Smile

Westfacing · 24/04/2020 18:37

GiantKitten my driver last week came about an hour early and told me that they've been instructed to leave the goods outside if no-one home - so they don't wait around!
