Ocado smart pass trials, tribulations and tiers

Background

On March 23, Ocado divided anytime and midweek smartpass members into random groups for access then realised that didn't work so divided us again into most loyal, loyal and near to miscellaneous tiers with having different levels of frequency for order delivery and indeed how many slots you can book in advance.

Certainly the most loyal and probably generally high average spend compared to local populations are the only ones being treated well. They are allowed to still book every seven days, can book 2-3 weeks in advance and are encouraged to book several slots over this time.

The rest of us are being treated with varying levels or service, disappointingly some have not had a single email since March 23 and still don't have access.

Those anytime pass members on the extremely vulnerable list by NHS England should be able to book every 7 days though aren't given the ability to book 2-3 weeks in advance. A few are apparently being called for fortnightly orders.

Ocado has been too greedy. They blame poor service on helping the extremely vulnerable but actually they let too many new and infrequent shoppers place orders putting too much stress on the system.

Complaints on social media are typically met with cut and paste replies. Both the call centre and chat comms have been shut down.

Those with weekly Reserved slots have had their places cancelled. The technology failed, or maybe actually wasn't fit for purpose anyhow

Here was our first thread

Let's hope we don't go to a third

Top tip is to try other companies including Morrisons who also deliver from warehouses.

Good luck to all

@fuss. I’m in the ten day tier. But it’s allowing me to book every 7 days.
As soon as slots are released 7 days after my existing booked order I can book them. For example I have an order booked for the 22nd. As soon as the slots for the 29th were released I could book them. Every day one more day was added to the ones I could book.

Milky77 · 14/04/2020 16:00

There seems to be quite a few anytime pass customers on Twitter who were emailed originally on March 26 about being put in a slot but still can't get access. Ocado are definitely aware of it. These customers like others on here have heard nothing since that original email and can't log in when they have tried. Mystifying

I'm on the ten day tier according to my email.

I got a 10 day email and then a 14 day one. And I can log in no problem (and do with great frequency), but it's been weeks since I saw any slot availability, so who knows what the reality is!

Facebook had more info about refunds

@FlamingoAndJohn I have deliveries on the 22nd and 30th but thinking about it could have booked for the 29th.
I keep checking into May but cant see anything yet.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 14/04/2020 16:32

@Fuss 5th May came online today - so you may be able to see 6th tomorrow?

Milky77 · 14/04/2020 16:49

I can't see any of May. Should be able to see 4th onwards.

Milky77 · 14/04/2020 16:51

@MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet thanks for letting us know.

OP posts:
mangocoveredlamb · 14/04/2020 16:54

Agree @milky77 I have managed to book 20/4 so would have expected to see 4/5 from yesterday. Have had a very bizarre exchange with them on Twitter DM re the increase to my smart pass (with no warning)

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 14/04/2020 17:03

But wasn't there also something on some tiers about seeing slots 7 days out? I had an email saying I could view slots up to 3 weeks out, but was it the 10 day level where you can only see slots one week away?

Fuss · 14/04/2020 17:03

Thanks @MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet

I'll do my usual 'its 3am I've nipped to the loo so I might as well check Ocado slots' thing then hah

mangocoveredlamb · 14/04/2020 17:26

Oh maybe that’s in @MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet seems a bit pointless though, as if they’ve said I can have a slot every 14 days why not let me book it? Makes me nervy that they’ll move the goal posts again. Which is counter productive because it makes me want to do a huge order and stuff the freezer in case I don’t get another slot!

bookgirl1982 · 14/04/2020 17:53

Yes some of us are every 14 days but can only see 7 days ahead. Makes it hard to forward plan as you don't know quite how long it will be before you manage to get another slot.

Milky77 · 14/04/2020 18:17

@mangocoveredlamb I feel the same about that wanting to buy extra! I've a small and do mean small stash. I won't increase that though.

OP posts:
MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 14/04/2020 18:31

@mangocoveredlamb Well, quite! There's a big disparity in someone who can see 3 weeks out, and someone who can see 1 week out.

The thing that's intriguing me about this all is the underlying logic. I'm fascinated to know!

Milky77 · 14/04/2020 18:45

Me too, @mustbedue

Aurorie11 · 14/04/2020 19:45

Banging my head against a brick wall with Ocado customer services, explained I’m buying and then taking food to two extremely vulnerable households, but all they keep saying is I’m not on extremely vulnerable list - and as I keep saying to them parents and parents in law don’t buy on line, they still do cheques! So can I have one slot for two extremely vulnerable households, but seems to be computer says no.

PowerslidePanda · 14/04/2020 20:11

Did we figure out the significance of the colour on the queue page? Mine is blue. I initially got a 10 day email and then a 14 day one, however my queue page says 7 days. But I have a delivery this weekend and can't see any availability beyond that, so think I'm quite limited in how far I can see ahead, as @bookgirl1982 suggests.

Bathonian2020 · 14/04/2020 20:11

I have to say Ocado have been fantastic as far as I am concerned. Apart from the initial two weeks when the site was down, I have managed to get a slot every ten days or so and most items have come. Given the pressure on the system I think that is a pretty good performance. It seems to be improving all the time too as my last order had no missing items and I have suddenly acquired the ability to edit orders. I normally order very early morning due to being an insomniac and the site is generally good then. I have been a regular user since they started.

Could not get a sniff of a slot from any other supermarket, Iceland or Amazon so I am very grateful. I am not on anyone's vulnerable list but I have diabetes, high BP and reduced lung function following a bad bout of pneumonia previously and am a lone parent including to a DC with SN. Huge relief to have deliveries.

Milky77 · 14/04/2020 20:24

Are you already a customer @aurorie11? I'm guessing not. They don't have enough capacity to support their current customer base inclusive of those on the extremely vulnerable list so must admit I'm not surprised they couldn't offer you a spot. There's plenty of other supermarkets out there though?

OP posts:
Milky77 · 14/04/2020 20:27

My interpretation @powerslidepanda

Red: we love you. Please book multiple slots in advance every 7 days.
Blue: We tolerate you and will help you once the Reds are happy
Yelllow: Fuck off. We have forgotten the £££ and time you were a loyal customer.

OP posts:
Xiaoxiong · 14/04/2020 20:32

I logged in today on a whim, not having been able to get a slot for the last 3 weeks. There appeared to be 2 weeks of full availability! I grabbed one for Thursday, and once I checked out I went back and all slots were gone - is that because I have a slot within the next week, so I'm not allowed to book another until next Tuesday? So confused!

Xiaoxiong · 14/04/2020 20:32

Ooh my colour is blue on the queue page....the plot thickens!

FreakStar · 14/04/2020 20:36

But I'm purple? What does that mean? Royalty? Grin

Ontheboardwalk · 14/04/2020 20:43

I know I know, here I am again!

I’ve not got the queue page now for about a week. As a 'very loyal' customer a few days ago I used to get the queue page with a couple mins waiting time with about 400 in front of me. Now I just get straight in every time.
