Tesco saying they can't find me on the shielding list

Is anyone else on the shielding list having problems getting priority slots from Tesco? When I got the letter I registered on the government site as asked but got no email from Tesco. I tweeted them and they got back to me saying my details were not on the list. I said that I had registered as asked and if they liked I could screenshot the letter. They replied by asking if I could get to the shop Hmm

Is it something to do with the criteria on the gov site - I think I did not tick 'needs deliveries from government' or something like that because I do not want to take that box of food for the most vulnerable away from others when I can afford to pay for food and deliveries.

My family is trying to isolate around me as far as possible and DD is also vulnerable though not shielded, so do not want to go to the supermarket for fear of bringing the virus home.

Don't know what to do as Tesco are just saying I am not on the list given them. Any ideas? Thanks.

Tesco are prioritising slots for the vulnerable, but only those on the government list. If they’ve matched you as being both on the government list and a club card holder, you get an email to register for the priority slots. They’ve been creating extra capacity and those slots are allocated to the vulnerable customers.

And this is why self isolation/lockdown isnt working There isnt the infrastructure in the UK to enable it.

ClientQueen · 08/04/2020 18:54

@bellinisurge I had to ring Sainsbury's as it hadn't updated
If anyone else on the shielding list is having issues with sainsburys then try ‭0800 052 5500‬. I got through within minutes and my account was updated. Still no slots but I could book one Grin

Hoggleludo · 08/04/2020 18:57

You should be on the list

However. It's taken the government weeks and will do to sort this

I registered about 2.5 weeks ago. I got priority today. You'll get an email.

BlueBrian · 08/04/2020 20:26

Iceland have now sent me an Email offering priority slots, nothing from Asda which is the one I actually want to use.

I am both on the list and a clubcard holder but nothing yet despite being in a Twitter dm conversation. Still saying they can't find me on the list and asking me if I can go out to shop Hmm

Thank you @ClientQueen

Madhairday
Same here. Have sent photos of letters, they are still saying we are not on the list.
Ocado the same
Sainsbury's can't even log in!

Mirador · 09/04/2020 21:48

It also depends where you live. Last time I checked a couple of days ago, a lot of the supermarkets were still only using the England's list, so if you live in Scotland say, they won't have your details yet. I can't remember if it was Tesco or Asda, but their page said they were working with the Scottish Gov to rectify this, and the Scottish Gov site says they are working with supermarkets to sort this.

It's been a nightmare as I haven't even had my letter yet so can't sign up.

WildOrchids67 · 09/04/2020 22:41

It's not about whether you've received the letter though, it's about whether you have any other way of getting shopping, e.g. if a friend or relative can go for you. I don't know if this is for every supermarket, but Tesco will only give you priority slots if you literally have no other way of getting food. The letter alone doesn't mean you qualify.

Fluffymulletstyle · 09/04/2020 22:45

My mum has been given priority slot at Tesco. It automatically matched her despite the letter from government going to her old address. She's in Wales. It's a huge logistical nightmare I imagine

Once I logged in I could then reserve her a priority slot. The first one was still 2 weeks away....

If you (or someone you know) genuinely cannot get out of the house to the shops and no they truly have no support from family, neighbours/friends, then you could also contact you local council's adult social care team - they may be able to help.

Lots are doing food parcels and helping with essential medication etc. This will only be for people who have no support network at all though and who are in real need, not just those who could go to the shops but don't want to.

mintyneb · 09/04/2020 22:58

I have been emailed by Tesco in the last couple of days to say that based on govt info they have me down is being vulnerable. I then got an email to say they are offering flexible delivery slots to vulnerable customers only on Easter Sunday. I've managed to book one which couldnt have come at a better time

Madhairday · 09/04/2020 23:04

That's good mintyneb.

I've still heard nothing but assuming now it's as people say because I ticked to say I had support, by which I meant I did not need a government box. I have thankfully managed to get a slot late April by trying at midnight the other night. I hope everyone here who needs one manages to get one.

They have now given me a number to ring, so I'll try tomorrow.

I registered on Gov site 4 weeks ago & informed them I had no support around me & was therefore extra vulnerable. They sent me a text to say they were contacting NHS for clarification re my situation.
Within 2 weeks I rec’d an email from Sainsbury’s confirming I was now on their priority list of vulnerable people.
I then had a phone call 12days ago from the company who provide Gov food parcels to say I was on their list to receive help & they would deliver a box of food weekly until I say otherwise.
I never heard from Tesco regarding being on their priority list (they are my main go to supermarket) & have never been able to get a delivery slot since February.
I logged into my acc today but couldn’t see any slots so found there number to call for vulnerable people re Covid-19. They said they didn’t have me on their list so I couldn’t be a vulnerable person otherwise the Gov would have written to them.
I was concerned about a couple of things she asked

  1. are you an account holder, only I can’t find you on our system? (have been since year dot)
  2. I can’t find your acc details anywhere, so I am not sure about this
  3. the trouble is we are getting people registering as vulnerable but we have no proof that they are, but I shall put your details in and will take your word for it. Didn’t believe me that I was getting gov food parcels, or that I had zero help & questioned my vulnerability. I offered to provide her proof but she declined. I could tell by her tone she just didn’t believe me. It all seems a total hash up. Tesco assured me I was now put on their list & I should be able to book a delivery slot tomorrow but couldn’t promise anything, so I shall try.

I think the system seems to be having a lot of problems and it seems to be really random what support different people are getting.

I got the shielding letter from the government weeks ago and registered on the website the day that they first put it up.

Initially I made the same mistake others have mentioned of saying that I didn’t need assistance to get food as I thought this meant the free government care parcels or food banks etc. and at the time I assumed I would be fine with Ocado deliveries (this was before they cancelled the Ocado reserved slots).

It is stupid that there is no option to register as not needing free care parcels, but that you are needing to be able to get deliveries. There must be loads of us in this category who don’t want to take charity away from others who need it and can pay for our own food but just can’t go outside to collect it.

When I realised this was the way it worked I re-registered to say that I do need help.

This was a few weeks ago, but it seems to have made no difference. I haven’t had any emails from supermarkets or been contacted by anyone.

Fortunately Ocado moved me to the able to get a delivery every 7 days group, so we are doing ok, but this wasn’t anything to do with being vulnerable or shielding or not.

The system is a mess! If we weren’t long term smartpass Ocado shoppers I don’t know how we would be getting any food at the moment as this is our only food access. I am so worried for others because there must be people in that situation who aren’t getting any food!
