Would this be considered essential

My husband and I have a lot of baby equipment at my parents house in their loft.I don't need it yet but probably will before lockdown ends (or it will be close). My parents live almost 20 miles away and I could ask them to leave everything outside. Would that be a considered an essential journey?

It isn't essential food or medicine so actually isn't essential at all.

Essentials are not just limited to food and medicine - that's why things like DIY shops are also still open.

Yes, OP doesn't know exactly when lockdown will end. She also doesn't know exactly when the baby will come - but if she's 36 weeks or later then it could reasonably be any day now, with the baby able to be discharged shortly after. And what if OP's parents have developed symptoms and started self isolating in the mean time and collecting the car seat from theirs is no longer an option? OP and the baby can't stay stuck in hospital!

I’d go now before we’re on full lockdown tbh.

Surely the risk involved in driving 20 miles and picking stuff up from outside a house is less then going to several shops to rebuy everything.

Shopping for essentials is allowed so logically this should be ok too, even if it is technically against the rules. Guidelines won't cover every scenario exactly.

Of course you need it.

Some people are going a bit OTT with all the rules here. Common sense has to prevail surely! OP is soon to have a baby. Car seat, cot etc are essential items for that baby. Definitely better to get them now rather than wait til too near the time. You don't know what's going to happen with labour and that car seat may well be needed sooner than you think.

Go and get your stuff OP, and give your parents a lovely wave from your car window.

You need it, somehow it has to get to your house. I don't see that other ways of that happening are any less risky, (you either go to the shops (!) or order online, increasing the need for warehouse staff and delivery drivers) so if you're coming up on 37 weeks I would send OH for it.
