Hotel bookings UK wedding wwyd?

We were meant to be getting married in July. We've postponed to next year.

Venue has no accommodation

We have a hotel booking at a UK chain hotel for the night before the wedding and the wedding night (Malmaison)

Parents and a couple of family members have similar bookings at a different chain (Jurys Inn)

We didn't book the rooms with a cancellation option - stupidly. If the hotels are still closed will they offer a voucher to use next year or will we forfeit the money because we didn't book with a cancellation option?

Small in the scheme of things I know and will obviously suck up a loss. Just wondered and didn't want to ring the hotels as they'll be flooded with people whose bookings are sooner than ours.

Nobody knows what Malmaison will do. It's up to them. Lots of companies are being flexible with things they previously had a no alternation policy. You will have to talk to the hotel. Only they can offer a solution.

Sorry, my wwyd isn't clear.

Contact the hotels and flag up that we didn't book with cancellation option

Or wait it out and see

We had hotels booked for the London marathon at the end of this month and 1 moved the date to the new marathon date and the other gave a full refund. Both were booked under non cancellation advance rates.

I'd contact them. I had a booking at a Jury's Inn for the end of March. I emailed them after the event I was travelling for was cancelled and they said that they couldn't offer a refund but I could alter the date and rebook for up to a year from now. Before I took them up on this, the hotel closed and I did get a full refund.

July seems a long way off - we don't know for certain that hotels will still be shut. We kind of assume they will be which is why we cancelled the wedding Sad

I’d booked a non cancellable non refundable room for the Easter hols. Initially the company offered to reschedule the date but then with the lockdown have offered to refund in full. I would ask about rescheduling but if they refuse then sit tight until nearer the date & see what happens.

I work for a chain hotel. On the bookings that didnt have a cancellation option (flexible booking) booked on them they are offering a credit of the same amount to be used on a future date. Your hotel may be different but you could check their policy for bookings now and assume it would still apply if come July they were still closed

If the hotel is closed, they cannot fulfil their contract with you so should refund. I know some may use force majeur clause as get out though.
