Cough but no other symptoms?

Morning everyone

Well as the title says, I have a cough and some tightness of my chest though I’m not having any difficulty breathing or taking deep breaths. No other symptoms. I’ve had this cough on and off for the last 3 weeks ( I haven’t been anywhere in this time, been self isolating as my children developed a mild cough and cold symptoms a few weeks ago. Both are fine now)

I can’t seem to shake this cough or tightness though. It’s not constant but seems to come and go, so I’ll have a period where my chest feels tight and I cough more then I’ll have long periods of no coughing or tightness.

I’m supposed to be back in work next week (teacher) but I’m really not sure what to do. I don’t feel poorly at all and this cough has persisted for over 3 weeks but I know you can have coronavirus and present so mildly you may not realise. Has anyone had a mild case that’s been confirmed? Could this potentially be a mild form of it? Any advice or stories gratefully received.
Thanks

I think the official advice is that once you’ve gone seven days from your first symptom you’re fine to go about your business even if you’re still coughing (unless you actually feel unwell obviously).

I personally don’t think that’s long enough but if you’re in week three I would say that you’re well past any point of concern.

I would ring your GP though, you might be able to have something to help with the cough or residual chest infection.

The advice on this seems to keep changing.

Apparently the tree pollen count is really high and a nurse advised me yesterday (similar symptoms) to try an antihistamine: might be grasping at straws but it could be worth a try?

I’ve had a cough for ages aswell but literally no other symptoms (no tightness of chest)

I have hay fever at the moment, comes every year with the tree pollen. It gives me a tickly throat, a feeling of a tight chest and blocked sinuses though not not all at the same time.

Talk to a doctor who can hear your cough and all relevant questions, random internet people are not medically qualified to answer your question. (You could have mild pneumonia, which would need antibiotics and lots of rest. Or allergies. Or a new covid-19 infection. Or something else. Talk to the doctor.)

Thanks for the replies 😊 I don’t think it’s hay fever as I’ve never suffered from it but I do have some antihistamines in the cupboard so may give it a try.

It’s just so odd as the coughing and tightness comes and goes. The longest I’ve gone without coughing or tightness is a couple of days then just when I thinks it’s gone, it comes back. And it’s not like anything is triggering it as this latest bout started last night when I was sitting watching TV...

Called the GP surgery, who have just told me to call NHS 111. So I’ll see what they say...

I’m in exactly the same position so will be interested in what 111 say yo you.

Stressedteacher2435 · 03/04/2020 13:05

Spoke to 111 who have referred me back to my GP surgery. I know have a phone consult for some time later on today. I’ll keep you updated

@LuckyMarmiteLover so 111 referred me back to my GP. They’ve singed me off work for an additional week as I’m contact with vulnerable children. But the GP said if it was Covid, the dangerous period is between days 8-12, that’s when patients who have been worse affected start to go downhill (I don’t think it is as I’ve only had the cough and tightness in my chest, no other symptoms). As I’m well past that stage he wasn’t concerned and said he’s only doing it from an excess of caution. Hope that helps with your situation 😊
