Does anyone know if a headache is a symptom?

We are self isolating. DS1 developed a cough 12 days ago. That was his only symptom and it’s still there now although it’s less frequent and not exactly dry, sometimes it can sound quite rattly.

I’ve felt tired all this week, and today I’ve got a cracking headache which doesn't seem to be getting much better with paracetamol. I felt sick earlier and went to bed for an hour but that seems to be better now, so it’s just feeling tired and headache.

Are there possible symptoms? I have no fever and no cough. DP and DS2 are both fine.

Yes my DH who tested positive for Covid - headache was a big symptom for him. He had bad fever and cough too. Maybe it comes out in you just as a headache. Seems to be manifesting itself very differently in different people is my observation.

I had a cracking headache, felt bloody awful and stayed in bed all day. Feel absolutely fine now. Very odd.

Headache still there and feeling knackered. Tired just walking up the stair (which I usually run up). Doesn’t help that DS1 woke 3 times last night so it could just be that.

So that's me with a headache most of the time for the past two weeks.

DS was ill with a high temperature, shivers and fatigue about 3 weeks ago. Took him a week and a half or so to return to normal. He says he lost his sense of taste and smell? So I think he had the virus. So it would make sense that either me or DH would have it too. I wonder if this is mine - if so I'll be glad to see the back of the headaches, but if this IS it then I got off lightly.

Me ex had the virus and said the headache/migraine was the worst part

LesFleursDuMal · 04/04/2020 18:35

I was about to post similar! I was down with a migraine-type (seeing white flashes, not able to see clearly, splitting persistent headache) headache for the past two days. Sore achy throat for the past 3 weeks (approx). No muscle pain and feeling generally ok, but not a drop of energy, no energy at all, just drained. No cough, fever, diarrhoea. Slightly tight chest, but I'm not feeling this all the time, worse in evenings or when I lie flat. Breathing ok, but I'm unable to do a deep 'full' breath, if that makes sense. Although not suffocating by any means. Dizziness and blackouts when I stand up (this passes in seconds).

I used to have migraines in my teens-early 20s. My mum and grandma also did, but my last migraine was approx 12 or so years ago (knocks on wood).

I do have hay fever, but I feel it hasn't started for me yet, as my symptoms are blocked nose, teary itchy eyes and continuous sneezing - none of which is happening now.

I don't mean to sound insensitive given the situation, but I'm completely calm, not worried, no anxiety of any kind, no panic, so my symptoms cannot be attributed to that.

I would write it down to a bog standard cold, probably. BUT I had quite a few of those in my life and whatever happens, I always, ALWAYS have a blocked runny nose, every single time. Not now, though, nose is clear.

All we can do is wonder, I guess.

I hope that everyone who has posted and had symptoms is ok.

The headache has gone but I've got an odd sore throat. It feels like I've been shouting too much, but I haven't shouted at all.

Towards the end of February I had a terrible three day migraine. I'd never felt anything like it. Never even had migraines before.
Paracetamol didn't touch the pain and it went on all night and day.
That's all I had though. What worked was a couple of codeine tablets and a good sleep.
At the same time, my son had a temperature of 38.9 and felt very unwell for three days. Flu symptoms. But they came on very suddenly.
This was all after staying with friends who had just got back from italy.
They never had any symptoms though (that I know of!)
It does seem very suspicious and if that was coronavirus, we got off very lightly.

Yes headache is a symptom. Main symptoms according to the symptom checker in my country are cough, breathing difficulties, sore throat, headache, body pains, diarrhoea or nausea. And fever of course.

ilikemethewayiam · 04/04/2020 20:53

@PurpleDaisies,

The tree pollen has been horrendous all week. I’d try taking an antihistamine and see if that helps at all.

That could explain why I’ve felt so bad!. I was convinced I had the virus because I felt so rough. I took hayfever meds and have felt much better. I have a very small garden backing onto a large woodland.

Phew!

GeordieRacer · 04/04/2020 20:56

I had fatigue, queasiness and a splitting headache about 2 days before I came down with a temperature and slight dry cough. This later developed into a severe cough and some breathlessness before I recovered, so likely it was the early stages of covid-19.

PurpleDaisies · 04/04/2020 20:56

Glad to be of help! My hay fever always starts early and ends late. It suddenly got worse a few years ago and it took a while to work out that was what it was. People often underestimate how bad it can make you feel.

Stay well.Flowers

I had similar symptoms to Realitea mid March. 5 days of splitting headache, grumbling fever, fatigue, sore throat and muscle aches but barely any cough. DS had 3 days of spiking temps and flu like symptoms but also no cough. Would desperately like to know if this was COVID as am NHS worker and DH is in an at risk group (he didn't seem to be affected at the time).

AliciaWhiskers · 07/04/2020 10:41

The headache still goes on here but other than feeling tired, that's it. The headache goes through waves, it was terrible when I woke up this morning but it has eased a bit now. It's very odd!
