Surely The Queen can send a message.

I'm sure this has been discussed on MN before but cannot find the thread.
I have been on the phone to my elderly mother, she lives in a different town to me so our only contact is by phone.(brothers doing her shopping).
She was saying that people of her age would appreciate if the Queen gave a message to her people, mum is on the phone to lots of her friends and
they have all said according to mum that they would be happy to hear from the Queen.
Prince Charles gave a speech when he came out of isolation so it wouldn't be impossible.
I know that no one on MN can answer but I am thinking it strange she hasn't.

Prince Charles is taking on more of the Queen's duties. That's why he delivered the message, instead of her.

Iamthewombat · 02/04/2020 20:24

Why does anyone think the Queen gives a flying fuck about them?

This!

They are all desperately trying to appear relevant at the moment. Useless Prince William keen to fly a helicopter. Thicko Harry issuing tone deaf messages as usual. Kate photographed making phone calls in a M&S trouser suit (she’s just like us!). Probably worried that we’ll all wake up and realise how pointless they are unless they pretend to be leading the nation.

The same thing happened after the Black Death but they managed to cling on. Quote from Richard II after the peasants’ revolt: “serfs ye be and serfs ye shall remain”.

Tell your mother that QE2, if she is still alive, will be holding forth soon to keep the plebs docile.

The woman's in her nineties. I bet she and her servants are in a hermetically sealed bunker palace somewhere, waiting for this to blow over.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 02/04/2020 21:00

Thing is, my parents are nearing her age, and this is the sort of message they would find reassuring.

It may well be all the scathing things posters have said, but it would bring some comfort to quite a few people. Just because you're not one of them doesn't mean it's pointless.

PicsInRed · 02/04/2020 21:02

I would imagine they are saving her address for when the proper lockdown is announced.

This isn't lockdown.

She has issued a statement. I have nothing against the queen but really don't care what she has to say about this situation! More interested in the opinion of Chris Witty and the like.

ShellsAndSunrises · 03/04/2020 15:22

She's made a statement, she's doing an address on Sunday.

She's 94, and in isolation, and I'm not quite sure what else you expect from her. She's been present, she's given statements - surely the people who would find it comforting to hear from her will have seen those?

FarTooSkinny · 03/04/2020 15:44

She is clearly on MN and has reacted to this thread. Be prepared for her to open the broadcast on Sunday thanking @Burlea

jhj67 · 03/04/2020 15:54

maybe it would be too difficult to get a film crew in what with social distancing

she could film it on her phone and then upload it to youtube? "...but first, a quick message from my sponsor ..."

Hannah021 · 03/04/2020 16:15

@jhj67 loool i think you mean
"...but first, a quick message to my sponsor ..." Grin

Yes, I agree with a previous poster. #bekind is a thing of the past. Seems like it's every man for himself at the minute. Shameful, and not just this thread but so many others on here to the moment.

Worship your sovereign, serfs, or else!

Iamthewombat · 03/04/2020 19:59

Do you think that QE2 has ever been on the end of #notverykind? I doubt it!

donquixotedelamancha · 03/04/2020 22:43

Yes, I agree with a previous poster. #bekind is a thing of the past.

I'm confused, what is unkind about this thread?

Are you saying joking about the queen is being unkind?

LastTrainEast · 03/04/2020 23:00

I think the queen sent quite a clear message when she got out of London into a huge remote castle and then took the phone off the hook :)

She'll be back in touch when she needs something from the peasants.
