Diabetic DH has symptoms and I'm so worried

My DH has type 1 diabetes and has been coughing for about 4 days now. His temp is slightly high for him but within acceptable parameters, he is aching and tired but the cough is getting worse and he was unable to sleep last night for coughing.

I read more today about ventilator rationing and I am just so scared that he is going to continue to get sicker and will be way down the priority list to get treatment because of his diabetes. I feel so helpless and I'm really scared to lose him.

I don't even know what the point of this post is. I know so many other people are in the same position or vulnerable themselves. I just need to get it outSad

No words to help but really hope he’s on the mend soon OP. I can’t imagine how anxious you’re feeling right now.

My mum is Type 1 and I’m dreading receiving a call to say she’s started symptoms.

Remember the majority of people get through this, stay positive x

Thanks @sunandrose. I keep trying to remember the mortality rate is still low and he's only 30 but I can't find any stories of t1's recovering without hospital intervention. Probably because they aren't newsworthy but it doesn't help my anxiety at all

Exactly this OP. The media isn't interested in those who recover, fear sells unfortunately. I'm yet to figure out who's best interests it is in that we are told about the deaths. I think it's distasteful that the journalists jump on every passing.

Statistically the chances of him not overcoming the virus are very very low.

I've seen accounts from ladies with COPD (decades older than your DH) on here who have not only survived but managed at home without intervention.

Likewise people with cystic fibrosis are making complete recoveries.

Keep an eye on him but please don't worry yourself sick. I hope he feels much better soon

At the age of 30 he’d be prioritised for treatment too - I think it’s sadly the very elderly who will lose out in the prioritising battle Sad.

Gosh, how incredibly stressful for you. I think every type 1 diabetic feels vulnerable because of this blasted virus. Look, he may just have some completely unconnected bug. Is he on an insulin pump? Does he monitor his sugar regularly? I understand that this must be making you very anxious, but he's young and hopefully well controlled? The best of luck to you both.

Type 1 diabetic, tested positive for coronavirus and she's doing really really well
