I've seen a few people suggesting that we shouldn't order any non-essential items at the moment.
I'm the owner of a small business selling "non essential" foods. All my other sources of income have dried up (and I'm not eligible for any of the government support at all), and I've had to diversify into deliveries. This is the only thing keeping the roof over my head - your purchase of "non-essentials" allows me to buy my essentials! It also means that I can buy more stock from other independent businesses....
Buying from little independent businesses means that the cogs of the economy keep turning; when things return to normal we'll have a faster economic recovery if independents have been able to keep trading by delivery. Think back over the last month or two and where you've been - the farmers market or gift shop perhaps; check if they're delivering and use them if you can. You may even find that they have better availability on certain goods + delivery slots than the big supermarkets.
THANK YOU to everyone who has ordered something from an independent business since lockdown began! It's a massive help.
