Stop smoking during Corona.

So I have just read that smokers are 14 times more likely to get corona virus because the lungs can’t clear the virus as well as non smokers and whilst I’m probably smoking even more just now through sheer boredom, then I think it’s a great time to try and stop, in all honesty then I don’t even enjoy smoking fags and roll ups anymore except first thing in morning.

Is anyone else out there trying to or thinking of stopping? I thought it would be good to support one anothers attempts to stop at this time.

I have tried to stop smoking once and it was a few months ago but to no avail, I used the patches but now I need sheer will power to get through and some support!Smile

For the first time today my brain said "oh let's go for a fag".
I didn't obviously (I don't even have any) but I did have a hard boiled sweet and did some tidying. It passed without any mishap and I'm managing not to take too many lozengers either.

Well done itsgettingweird that's brilliant.

I know I am still smoking but when I get the urge for a cig I am trying to do something to eke the time out before I actually smoke.

Stepping away from the laptop (working from home) and hoovering the room, playing with the dogs for 5 minutes, wiping down the surfaces etc.

My smoking is really freaking me out during this crisis

I am 11 months sober (alcoholic) and hadn't bargained on tackling smoking as well just yet but I'm convincing myself that I'll die if I continue.

That study linked above has confused me tho - is it saying there's a chance that smoking could be protective for covid19?

vape shops are shit, i think.

i have an aspire pockex vape - cost me £15 from e-cigarette.co.uk and it’s so simple to use. i am a fat-fingered luddite and can use it and refill it with no problems!

i use menthol blast juice and it gives me the same lung ‘hit’ as a fag. i haven’t had a cigarette for over 2 months now and i’m a lifelong smoker.

the vape i have could not be simpler to use, i highly recommend it. i get 3 bottles of juice at a time for a tenner - lasts me just over a fortnight. i’m on the 12mg nicotine strength down from 18.

my smoker’s cough has completely gone, and i was beginning to sound like my Nan. i couldn’t have quit without the vape and i’m happy to have made the swap.

shut - vape shops are shut, not shit!

Cherry well done on getting dry. That's a massive achievement. BrewCake
Could you apply the same techniques to start reducing by 1 a day? Or switch to lozengers and try alternating smoking with gum/lozenge and then decrease fags and increase gum etc if necessary.
You're clearly very strong willed and having beat 1 addiction you know you can do this Thanks

I really recommend you call your local stop smoking service. I'm an advisor and we can give you free nicotine replacement therapy (patches/gums/inhaler etc) plus also behaviour support for 12 weeks. It's completely free. We're working remotely by telephone or Skype at the moment and obviously I don't know about other counties. We're posting the NRT out to clients. You're 4 times more likely to quit that way and it sounds like you want to be smoke free!

I actually do want to stop but I’m choosing an absolute crazy time to stop when all I have is time on my hands, I just can’t afford to smoke right now and tbh I genuinely don’t even enjoy smoking and I don’t enjoy not being able to run up 2 flights of stairs to my flat without wheezing and gasping like an asthmatic having an attack, and I’m not actually asthmatic.

Inappropriatefemale it's shit isn't it?
If you're able to quit cold turkey then great.

If not then anything you can do to start reducing WILL help you. I'm not in the right frame of mind to quit cold turkey right now. That may sound like excuses to some but I know my mental health. I also know though that I couldn't carry on the way I was and I needed to try and do something.

For three days in a row now I have smoked less than 10 a day. I honestly, honestly cannot remember the last time I did that and I'm viewing that as a huge positive.

It's such a hard time right now to try and quit/cut down, but I think it's the best time too.

I have smoked for 30 years, tried champix but then just had one which led to being back on it. I tried hypnosis, didn’t work. Tried a vape last year and couldn’t get on with it and kept thinking just one more pack then I will vape. I changed the vape to a different one and I have been using that for a month instead of smoking and I am so much happier. I went for the 18mg of nicotine juice and will reduce that slowly. I feel healthier, more fragrant and I am not constantly thinking about having a cigarette. I do vape a fair bit but I am not constantly thinking about it. I am really hoping that once this lockdown is over I will have not been smoking for so long that when out drinking or with friends that smoke I will still stick to the vape.
