Woman on Facebook asking if she can take her toddler to the supermarket because he’s going stir crazy at home because he’s been stuck in for a week with BRONCHITIS. Fuck me. I usually hold my tongue but I couldn’t help myself.

My FB feed has been full of shares today for this "rainbows for the nightingale hospital" ......... sending pictures your kids have drawn in the post to put on the walls. Of a fucking disease control centre.

Some people are so far beyond thick it hurts.

Thinkinghappythoughts · 01/04/2020 21:02

How little empathy? If she is a single and needs food, what is she supposed to do starve?

This is a very nasty thread about someone you don't know, with no context. No thought of possible solutions or how to help.

Soubriquet · 01/04/2020 21:04

They are actually requesting pictures for the nightingale wards.....so no need to be snobby over that

Soubriquet · 01/04/2020 21:05

In fact, my dc’s school have even sent me addresses for pictures to be sent to them

Hannah021 · 01/04/2020 21:08

@Soubriquet, sorry pics for what purpose?

Gizmo79 · 01/04/2020 21:22

Just to be pedantic. Young children and babies do not get bronchitis. They get bronchiolitis which is slightly different.anyway- same end result, don’t take them out and don’t spread or infect.
Basic really....

FlamingoAndJohn · 01/04/2020 21:27

But she’s saying it’s because her toddler is bored.
I’m willing to bet that if she genuinely couldn’t get out then someone else could drop stuff off for her.

whensmynexthol1day · 01/04/2020 21:27

Yes it's an official scheme. They have to be laminated so they can clean them, but they want kids pictures on the wall.sounds like a nice idea to me!

beardotdo · 01/04/2020 21:35

The rainbow thing isn’t actually true. Please don’t send pictures. twitter.com/nightingaleldn/status/1245402097035681794?s=21

TheFutureMrsHardy · 01/04/2020 21:37

Not according to the official hospital twitter feed, it isn't.

I’ve just witnessed peak stupidity
Wrinklesareenhancing · 01/04/2020 21:42

@beardotdo the request was made by a medic and was on Radio 4

Wrinklesareenhancing · 01/04/2020 21:43

That’s pretty shocking!

Just for clarification, she isn’t single. She also lives very near family if her partner was unable to go out.

I was wondering about the bronchitis vs. bronchiolitis thing. Child is over 18 months. When DS was admitted to hospital a few months ago they told me he was borderline age-wise for bronchiolitis and he was 13 months then. They called it viral wheeze at that point. Hence I stuck with bronchitis which is what she said.

I saw a guy take his mask off, cough into the air, then put his mask back on.

JMoore · 02/04/2020 09:00

I'm in Germany, where technically there is no lockdown but a "contact ban", which amounts to more or less the same thing, ie. no groups over two people not from the same family/household in public places, stand 2 meters apart etc. And yet, when I was walking the dog I saw a group of parents (maybe five or six grownups) with at least 6 or 7 toddlers and babies between them, all standing close together, chatting, the little ones running between them etc. on a public footpath, basically blocking it. My voice may have been a bit louder than necessary when I told my dog that we were going to turn back as we don't want to have to walk past a bunch of morons...

EL8888 · 02/04/2020 09:04

@zombieapocalypseisnigh totally. Waiting for some inane confirmation e.g. u be ok hun 😊

I knew people were often dim but the last few weeks have been a new level!

EL8888 · 02/04/2020 09:05

@TheFutureMrsHardy pleases tell me you are joking?!?!?

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 02/04/2020 09:28

She also lives very near family

This is irrelevant when we're not supposed to meet or mix with other households. Family cannot provide childcare in this scenario.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 02/04/2020 09:30

That doesn't change the fact that none of the household should have been going anywhere if a member has been coughing in the last 14 days though. Not her, not her partner, and not the child.

Although what they do if they can't get a food delivery, I don't know.

TheFutureMrsHardy · 02/04/2020 09:38

Not joking, no.

According to FB, thousands of parents have had their kids drawing pictures and they are all going in the post to some regional "co-ordinators".

The idea itself of kids painting rainbows is lovely but why would people set up a FB page that's little more than a hoax and is going to cause massive disruption to the posting system and a hospital Sad

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 02/04/2020 09:46

Lots of people are fuckwits. And it's not 'little more than a hoax' imo. It's a straight up hoax.

TreeTopTim · 02/04/2020 10:08

That nightingale rainbow hoax is scary. The last thing the staff at the nightingale hospital need is to have to deal with millions of bits of extra pieces of paper.

Bienentrinkwasser · 02/04/2020 10:27

@ReceptacleForTheRespectable they could drop off shopping though if she was unable to go out. Y’know, due to the sick child.
