Dad has tested positive for coronavirus

Hi , my dad has tested positive for coronavirus today. He is a dialysis patient, hypertension diabetes and glaucoma. He didn’t have any symptoms and tested positive because someone in the ward had it and they were checking everyone. I’m in bits as he’s not looking good when it comes to the stats. The other thing is my mum lives with and she has been isolating as much as she can from him as he is high risk to catch it because of the hospital and now I’m worried about both. Mum and dad trying time keep it together but I can sense how scared they are. Mum has not been tested. I am so so sad I can’t give them a hug or see them. I always knew my parents might get ill one day but to not be able to hold them is a different kind of pain. The only thing I’m hoping is as the days go on they stay healthy and have no symptoms and feel okay. Let’s see how it goes. Everyone who can please stay home x

I'm so sorry to hear this. Hopefully he only has a mild case of it 🤞🤞🤞

mocktail · 01/04/2020 22:40

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully he'll get a mild case 🤞

fluffy71 · 01/04/2020 22:43

I’m so sorry that you are going through this. Xx

WaitroseIsMySpiritualHome · 01/04/2020 22:43

I have read a few things written by people who DO fall into the higher risk categories, have tested positive and become ill, and then recovered

He is obviously higher risk than average, but it's not a given that he will get it badly. I know you will worry - I would too - but take each day as it comes and try not to focus on something that hasn't happened yet. He may get off lightly yet.

VivaLeBeaver · 01/04/2020 22:44

Fingers crossed if he hasn’t got symptoms it may stay that way. I read 20% of people with it don’t have any symptoms.

VivaLeBeaver · 01/04/2020 22:45

Remember the English guy on the cruise ship, he was in his 80s and diabetic and was ok.

Random18 · 01/04/2020 22:50

It is worrying.

George Aligyia (spelling I know) who is a BBC news presenter has stage 4 cancer.

He tested positive for Covid-19 and was talking about his experience on the news yesterday.

Hes had a very mild case and it may be worth trying to find his interview.

AmelieTaylor · 01/04/2020 22:51

I’m sorry, you must be very worried 🌷

Are they keeping him in?

Sending lots of love & strength for him to fight it off & for you & your mum x

candle18 · 01/04/2020 22:52

I can see why you’re worried but I listened to a talk from a professor yesterday and he said that they are finding that around 50% of people who get it show no symptoms. Hopefully it’s good news that your dad has no symptoms yet. Must be difficult for your mum though, I imagine they’ll just have to try as best as they can to keep on top of hand washing etc. Hope it all works out okay

Lovingmummy9 · 02/04/2020 02:22

Thank you everyone for your reply. So far they’re both feeling okay. Am keeping a close eye by phoning and messaging. They’re both being positive now so that helps. Mum making lots of tumeric and chicken soup which is helping. I’ve told them not to watch the news and they’re keeping busy by watching light hearted tv. Will keep updating and thanks for the reply Flowers

Look OP: this man with kidney failure had two days of symptoms, tested positive and is now fine. Very best wishes to your parents and hope they’ve had a good night Flowers

Am so sorry to read this . It must be so hard not being able to physically see and hug your parents. I think that is the part of this horrific situation that we are all missing, is that the unwell people are without their family ...brings tears to my eyes . Hopefully your dear father remains well . 💐

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/04/2020 07:41

I hope your mum and dad will be ok Flowers. Must be so hard not to see them at such a worrying time.

Lovingmummy9 · 02/04/2020 11:29

Thank you guys for your supportive words. Am really overwhelmed with the amount of support on here. Thanks for the links for the news reporter and the dialysis patient with covid 19. It’s a waiting game and every time I speak to them and they seem well I feel encouraged. Just hoping it stays that way, if by day 14 and then for my mum I suppose a bit longer they are both well then I’ll start to relax. They said to dad if he becomes unwell they’ll keep him in as an in patient and this is what I’m dreading. However am keeping myself busy cooking cleaning and homeschooling kids to get through it. Having long talks with mum on FaceTime too. Stay well everyone xxxxx
