Has anyone been contacted yet? I know June has been floating about - but is this BY June or will start to contact people in June?

Don’t know sorry. I took last tax year off my business due to caring responsibilities so don’t qualify as no tax return. Sad

KoalasandRabbit · 31/03/2020 19:20

No but I won't qualify as started self-employment in Oct 18 after employment. Be careful though to check genuine if you get an e-mail.

Boredsheep · 31/03/2020 22:41

That’s rubbish for both of you. I completed a return for year 18-19, but it was my first year so not sure if I will qualify.

No and don't expect to be soon. They've not finalised the details of how it will work, plus they are allowing people who are late with their returns to file them now.

kilisibird · 31/03/2020 22:59

You have to apply for the grant. The scheme isn't open yet. They have said on the website they will not contact you and if you get an email/text etc saying you can claim financial help it is a scam.

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 31/03/2020 23:01

Yes seconding what a PP has said. If you are eligible for the help due to be given in June you will be contacted but that won't be soon, they are still working out who is eligible.

kilisibird · 31/03/2020 23:04

No. This is incorrect. They will NOT contact people.

Once the scheme is open people will be able to apply. They are not working out who is eligible right now, they are setting the scheme up. Once it's in place applications will be welcome.

KoalasandRabbit · 31/03/2020 23:07

The basic scheme details are here but it's not open yet:

www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-scheme

I started same time but don't qualify as employed before so don't meet their 50% rule even though been only self-employed since October 2018.

HMRC are contacting eligible people and advising them to apply in June when the scheme opens. This is in the email they sent when it was first announced.

^ that’s wrong despite you writing it so boldly. They will be contacting those eligible. Ive already had an email telling me they will plus the chancellor said so in his speech.

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 31/03/2020 23:14

@kilisibird I managed to (finally) speak to someone today via the phone number I was given whilst applying for universal credit. I was told we would be contacted to tell us we were eligible and then be able to go from there. Is this information wrong? And if so please can I ask where you have been told differently?
Worrying I am not doing the right things!

ShellsAndSunrises · 31/03/2020 23:15

Bloody hell there’s some misinformation in this thread.

If you're eligible for a small business rates grant, you need to contact your council.

If you’re eligible for the small business support announced by the chancellor, HMRC will contact you. They’re not looking into this for another four weeks after the chancellors announcement to allow for the deadline to pass. They’ll then start administering the scheme, but when contact will come is anyone’s guess. Payment is best estimated as being in June, so I’d guess most people will be contacted before then.

If 18/19 was your first year self employed, make sure that you are eligible - if you were employed that tax year and got paid more than 50% of your annual income that year, I don’t think you’ll be contacted, which Twitter was enraged about today.

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 31/03/2020 23:17

@shellsandsunrises fab, thanks for confirming what I thought! Panic over Smile

For now!

confusedandtired99 · 31/03/2020 23:17

I did contact my council in regards to the small business grant... they said they would contact me
If I am eligible

Knocksomesense · 31/03/2020 23:18

In both dh and I are self employed. I'm currently taking the head in the sand approach. This is all so stressful

The Gov website is very clear regarding what is happening and to treat any emails saying otherwise as spam.

@kilisibird Doesn't that say exactly what I've stated, we will be contacted if we are eligible?

kilisibird · 31/03/2020 23:24

Bloody hell Blush

Sorry yes it does! It then says to treat emails doing just that as spam!

Sorry 😐

kilisibird · 31/03/2020 23:25

Sorry please ignore me I managed to read that completely incorrectly Blush

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 31/03/2020 23:28

@kilisibird no worries! It's all confusing, just glad I'm not doing the wrong thing x

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/03/2020 23:28

I don’t understand you repeatedly posting the same screenshot? (And patronisingly telling us to click on it for full size pic)

I didn't mean it to be patronising. No always say that because it annoys me when it cuts a picture up. I also posted it more then once because I was replying to each post. I was also wrong.
