Please help me with technology so I can video call my son during this

Self Isolating. Had set up Skype to video call my son during this time (he was there on his usual every weekend when I began having to self isolate). Really missing him. I am self isolating for longer than the recommended time as a precaution due to their household having an extremely extremely vulnerable shielded adult living there. So it will be longer than the 2 weeks.

Had been videocalling today and somehow when i log in it is showing me as him, and when he's logging in he is still showing as him. Iyswim?? But we are both logging in on different email addresses from different houses!!

Ex noticed this after the video call and thinks it's some bill gates spying on him conspiracy, and is now saying no video chats until I can get it fixed. He's another story. Being able to see my son, see him playing his instrument, playing games together, we'll both really struggle without that. Ex doesn't care.

How do I fix this?? Can I just delete the account and make a new one?? Or won't it just keep happening??

Sorry I’m not great with Skype but perhaps you could try WhatsApp calling or Facetime if you’ve got an iphone or ipad?

I do WhatsApp video calls with my family. It is very simple and easy (also it's free)

Skype is not the best video calling system to use. I use it for work, it's glitchy at the best of times.
If you and your son have iPhones/ iPads, use FaceTime.
If not use WhatsApp video calling.
Or use Zoom from laptops/ PCs.

If you have an Android phone, the equivalent to Facetime is called Duo (it also works on Apple devices so it's handy if one person has an iPhone and the other doesn't). It's very easy to use.

Thanks so much all. Son has a tablet from school (limited apps allowed) and I've a kindle and an Android tablet. Think son has another tablet there an ipad.

I'm a technophobe but sure we will work something out.

Thanks.

Download zoom it's fab. App Store - zoom video conferencing it's free

Flaxmeadow · 31/03/2020 19:03

Might be easier to use something like facebook/messenger or instagram

Lifeaback · 31/03/2020 19:06

Another one recommending zoom it’s straightforward to download and set up. Or perhaps google hangout?

Flaxmeadow · 31/03/2020 19:19

...you don't have to necessarily "download" anything BTW to use various ways of video messaging.
