Anyone still working as normal threatened with a paycut yet?

My husband just recieved an email this morning saying the company would be asking them to take a paycut as part of the company's response to Covid19.

Obviously this situation is challenging but even though he is working from home my husband is doing his usual hours and then some as their is so much work. He has plenty of work to last him and his team for the next years and more.

Just wondered if anyone else working as normal was being asked to take a pay cut? Are some companies using the crisis to save money on the payroll? I'm sure this also happened in 2008.

Yes, dh has been told no bonus plus 10-15% cut. Think we may have just lost the house we were planning on buying August

emilydark · 31/03/2020 10:19

@loislittslover sorry to hear that especially about your house.

Yep, I'm a freelancer and pretty lucky to still be getting work. But my main client can only pay me 80% of my usual rate apparently. To be honest, I think they're just being chancers, but I have no other options right now.

Sorry to everyone who is going through this. It's very depressing.

I’m expecting it any moment. Other depts within the company have had 30% pay cuts for six months.

Glittercandle · 31/03/2020 10:28

DH had his pay rise (9%) withdrawn then a week later was told he would also be getting a pay cut (both were company wide). He’s had a 16% pay cut based on his salary after the pay rise he should have got.
We are thankful he still has a job.

emilydark · 31/03/2020 10:28

@nevermore it is depressing, definitely some people and companies are being chancers as you say.

I know of a couple of people who were asked to take 20% pay cuts right at the beginning of this. It’s crap but I guess if it preserves more jobs that’s good. Doesn’t help the individual though

emilydark · 31/03/2020 10:31

@glittercandle obviously we are grateful still to have work but we're still entitled to raise an eyebrow when companies and individuals are essentially abusing the current crisis to line their own pockets.

Yes, DH has lost his car allowance, so about 10% of gross salary. This has only affected employees with a car allowance, those without keep 100% pay.

emilydark · 31/03/2020 10:33

@thetiger I suspect its all very dependent on tje industry you're in. It is probably necessary in some and not so much in others.

OH's son works in sales and has been asked to take a 10% pay cut which he was happy to take. Originally they just sent a contract asking them to sign to say they will take a pay cut but with no indication of how much- he questioned it and they sent another out with 10% but the figure they wrote did not equate 10%- he requested another contract 🙄 but they needed it signed that day so have just put him down as declining the pay cut. Their loss!

HoldMyLobster · 31/03/2020 13:15

Yes 25% so far.

The company’s income has dropped by at least 95% and the boss is paying himself nothing.

TheBiscuitStrikesBack · 31/03/2020 13:16

Yes, my DH has taken a pay cut and is working harder than ever. Albeit from home.

Whatsmyname26 · 31/03/2020 13:24
