A question for Anti - Vaxxer

This is not meant to be goady at all

But has this pandemic changed your thinking about vaccines. Can you see what vaccines have prevented - a hundred years ago replace corona virus with smallpox or any of the highly contagious diseases which wiped out families. Do you not think we need vaccines to prevent this sort of thing happening on a regular basis?

I don’t think antivaxxers are waiting for a vaccine. As we have already seen with measles, many have shown themselves willing to let their children die rather than accept vaccines. If they won’t vaccinate for measles, which is far deadlier to children than Covid-19, they won’t be bothered about vaccines now.

You'll find this thread interesting.

@LittleLittleLittle Well that's exactly my point. Measles came first and then a vaccine was created. Yes, we're now in a position to prevent it but we wouldn't be had an outbreak not occurred in the first place.

bellinisurge · 04/04/2020 09:52

There's no herd immunity in my area for measles because of stupid fucking anti vaxxers. Bet those twats are clapping the NHS every Thursday.
And no, I don't mean people who can't vaccinate for genuine medical reasons by which I don't mean "feelings ".

LastTrainEast · 04/04/2020 10:05

Of course we now have a whole new kind of anti-vaxxer who thinks that a vaccine will chip them and they will then be tracked and/or their minds-controlled and probably poison them too.

They shouldn't fear Mind control as with them we wouldn't have much to work with.

KenDodd · 04/04/2020 13:26

this sort of thing’ is a pandemic of a novel virus - so you can vax everyone, for everything known to mankind and you still won’t ‘prevent this kind of thing happening’

I'm going to beg to differ on this. The closest thing I could compare CV to in the past would be Spanish Flu (I know a flu is a different family to Corona viruses). I would bet that if Spanish flu had come along now we would have been able to very quickly produce a new vaccine to tackle it before it could take hold. This is because we produce new flu vaccines every year to combat new strains of flu. Spanish flu would be a new disease and it (hopefully) could have been stamped out quickly with a new vaccine, therefore preventing this sort of thing happening. Now I know Corona viruses are different before you pick me up on that, I just think you've been a bit unfair to the previous poster for suggesting mass vaccination (of a new vaccine) might tackle new diseases. Also, given the current background, I think it's more important than ever to take every vaccine on offer at the moment. The last thing we need right now is a measles outbreak.

KinkyFink · 04/04/2020 13:51

The anti vaxxer I know is posting videos of people claiming viruses can't be caught - apparently thr body generates them to detox from all the roxins we eat and inhale. Then there was some twaddle about why we all get it at the same time but I'd switched off by that point

TwistyHair · 04/04/2020 13:55

@ KinkyFink I saw some shit like that too. And that vaccines will actually make you more susceptible to a virus because they contain aluminium and this whole thing is caused by 5g. So I think for hardcore anti vaxxers this won’t make any difference.

Lweji · 04/04/2020 13:55

I agree. That's why, as far as I know, governements are recommending that parents keep up with children's vaccinations.

As for coronavirus, this one is related to the first SARS. It was a risk.
There have been studies on it, and as of last December there were still papers being published on SARS and, a bit more, on MERS, another coronavirus.
But, funding interest waned as it didn't seem like a big problem.
There's been very little funding interest in researching zoonotic viruses (and other pathogens) that could cause serious diseases in humans.
I don't know enough about coronaviruses, but it might be possible to design vaccines that offer at least some protection against different variants.
I hope after this there will be more interest in zoonotic pathogens and in mapping them.

TwistyHair · 04/04/2020 13:56

It was Steiner I think who made that claim about viruses being created by your cells as a response to toxins.

KinkyFink · 04/04/2020 14:14

@twistyhair the worst part of that video is how he talks about how clever he was as a kid - quite clearly positioning himself as more intelligent to lull the stupid into a false sense of him having a fucking clue what he's talking about.

KenDodd · 04/04/2020 14:20

@KinkyFink
Who are you talking about?

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 04/04/2020 14:25

@FTMF30
You are making alot of assumptions here. No we wont have enough immunity, we dont know how long natural immunity will last and lastly Covid19 will enter our lives rugularly just like th flu virus do and will be controlled only by a vaccine

KinkyFink · 04/04/2020 14:45

@kendodd his name is Tim Barnett I think

KenDodd · 04/04/2020 15:42

Ok, I thought you were talking about Keir Starmer for some reason, I couldn't quite believe it.

TwistyHair · 04/04/2020 16:13

@KinkyFink that’s so annoying.

KatharinaRosalie · 04/04/2020 16:17

The antivaxxers I've seen certainly haven't changed their minds. According to them, it's all a big hoax and the virus does not exist. Or if it does, their superior pure immune systems can easily handle it, and only vaccinated people get sick. The vaccine, when ready, is also just government's plan to poison and microchip us.

Belle82 · 30/04/2021 23:00

Not for the covid vaccination but for another illness which is creeping up in numbers and will only get worse with the increasing anti vaxer population.

Measles vaccine really needs to be made mandatory, just as it has been in France, makes me sad this country won’t do what is necessary to stop the anti vaxer spread of false information!
