The etiquette of buying on eBay

Hi, as a good many of purchases are online now, I wondered what the etiquette was of buying rubbish on eBay?

I mean, consumer stuff like the odd 1970s vinyl single? For the princely sum of £3.

Sure, it's easy for me to order - but some poor sod has to go out and post it. The Post Office can be pretty crowded, and it's hard to say it's part of your one-a-day walk. The purchase is certainly not essential.

Or might it be a way of keeping the economy going, with money going into someone's pocket?

The corona virus ebay etiquette is no. Just no ebay.

Ebay only from businesses, not individuals and for the things you really need and not the nice to haves.

But if people have listed stuff, then they must be planning on posting it - or so you’d think. DH promised DS a toy and when I helped him choose, what he wanted was a Batman glider that one of his friends has, which isn’t in the shops anymore and could only be found on eBay. I bought it, and then got a message saying it couldn’t be posted until the ban on unnecessary travel was lifted. I messaged back and said I was happy to wait, and then the seller said actually they might need to go to the post office for work and could post it then, and it was dispatched today.

So in general, I think the onus is on the seller to decide what they’re comfortable doing. But if they aren’t going to post things, they shouldn’t have them listed.

(awaits pile on for being irresponsible buying secondhand tat - in my defence anything that distracts DS is essential right now! And yes, I will wash it before I give it to him).
