Have I rescheduled our holiday too soon

We had a week's holiday booked in England in a cottage for the week of 25th May 2020.

Due to covid, the holiday company said people could reschedule to a later date (no refunds if we were still in shutdown). We only have one week a year we can go on hols - the summer term half term hol - so I rescheduled it for that half term 2021.

Now I am worried I may have jumped too soon as we may have been able to go on hols in in 2020 in May after all.

What do people think?

I think May 2021is more realistic.

OhMy05 · 30/03/2020 13:19

No, I think you did the right thing. It’s very doubtful we’ll be flying anywhere this May.

DaanSaaf · 30/03/2020 13:20

There's no way you'll be going on holiday in May of this year, you've done the right thing.

Megan2018 · 30/03/2020 13:21

Definitely the right thing

ITasteSpring · 30/03/2020 13:23

That is reassuring. I was worried I had panicked and made us miss out on our family holiday unnecessarily. Though the dilemma was, if I didn't reschedule now, I may have missed the one week slot we can reshedule to next year!

It's hard to plan when we don't know how long all of this is going on for!

Even if you could have travelled by then, I think you would have found a lot of attractions etc would have still been closed.

As it is, I think there will still be travel restrictions by end of May even if things loosen up a little bit.

Whitefeather01 · 30/03/2020 13:34

We have one booked for June to Majorca, hoping to reshedual to June 2021. I don't think we'll be going by June, so defo don't think you'll be going in May!

LIZS · 30/03/2020 13:39

I think June/July will be the very earliest any sense of "normality" is likely to resume, probably into autumn. May 2021 seems realistic to plan ahead.

Jollitwiglet · 30/03/2020 13:43

Even in the unlikely event that you would have been able to go, it is possible the general atmosphere would still be uneasy and not the best holiday anyway

policeandthieves · 30/03/2020 13:51

I've rescheduled for next Easter - the cottage company wouldn't take bookings until after June this year anyway so I think May 2020 would be no go

Snowflakes1122 · 30/03/2020 13:59

You did the right thing. This isn’t going to be over in a few months sadly.

You now have something to look forward to amongst this chaos too Smile

ITasteSpring · 30/03/2020 14:13

That's right snowflakes - the cottage looks lovely! Smile

I’ve got a short break at DLP booked for mid June and I’m holding out until mid / end May before I make a decision

APurpleSquirrel · 30/03/2020 14:15

We've done the same thing - moved our booking to 2021 May half term, a shame but something to look forward to.

nowmorethanever · 30/03/2020 14:17

I’m with everyone else, unfortunately May is going to be out of the question.

I’m dreaming of planning my next UK trip but I wouldn’t even hazard a guess as to when that’s going to be.

Dyrne · 30/03/2020 14:44

I’ve started making a list of things I want to do or places to visit once this is all over and done with (starting with visiting my Granny and giving her a massive hug).

Can you plan maybe for a weekend getaway somewhere later this year to keep you going until your big holiday next year? I’m currently going through our finances trying to work out if we can afford something nice later this year as a result of not having to pay out for all of the smaller days out etc at the moment.

ITasteSpring · 30/03/2020 15:12

Dyrne - Yes, I am thinking of that - maybe in the summer hols we could have a short trip - or even in the Autumn half term. Or go and stay with my brother for a long weekend not sure how much of a holiday that would be though, especally not for him!
