UK Citizen abroad can’t get home

Should the government be blamed for not rescuing British citizens abroad. The government sent a warning a week ago to say you need to get home now, why did these people not make arrangements then?

I agree. My DS came home a few weeks ago from Asia. This hasn’t just hit. People putting on the sad face-didn’t they get the memo??

They made their choice.

Tourists who went abroad during this, well, no words for the selfishness and stupidity.

I chose to live in the UK. I made my choice and made it again when coronavirus started here. I certainly don't expect my country of birth to drop everything to pop over and rescue me.

I think people need to take responsibility for their own actions at times.

As mentioned the UK govt advised against all but essential travel a lifetime ago (I know it's really only days but seems like a lifetime ago). At that time they stayed that if people still chose to travel they would basically be on their own to get back.

I would have thought that would have set alarm bells ringing. Plus well everything else that's been going on.

They should bring Nazanin home though if she is freed.

Yes, agree that people should take more responsibility for themselves. They have had several weeks at least to see what was coming and get themselves home, extra expense or not (travel insurance?).

It has become increasingly difficult to get back with flights and routes being changed/cancelled at the last minute.
When this started in China flights from HK to my city in China went from 14 per week with Cathay to zero in about 2 days. It was also incredibly difficult to contact airlines to rearrange bookings. My flight was cancelled by the airline, no rescheduled flight, no email response and phone lines all busy.
